Luciano Spalletti has hailed Roma as proving their maturity and sent out a warning to Sir Alex Ferguson.
“There was the very real possibility that after such a fantastic win against Olympique Lyonnais, we would see a lack of motivation or focus,” commented the Coach.
“Instead the team showed its quality tonight and this performance was real proof of their maturity.”
The 3-1 win over Udinese at the Stadio Olimpico maintained the 16-point gap from leaders Inter, but above all extended their advantage in second place to 11 points.
The Giallorossi have been paired with Manchester United in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Spalletti was asked to comment on Sir Alex’s statements after the draw, in which he named Roma’s danger men as Daniele De Rossi and Amantino Mancini, leaving out tonight’s brace hero Francesco Totti.
“Well, I’m sure Ferguson will realise what Totti can do when they come face to face,” smiled the ex-Udinese boss.
Alberto Malesani acknowledged that the damage was done in the first half of this match, as they were 3-0 down before a late reaction.
“We had a very poor start to this game and basically gave Roma a helping hand, giving them the opportunity to score two simple goals,” said the Friuli Coach.
“We recovered in the end and could even have had the chances to equalise, but it was too late by then.”
