United still No1 in rich list

MANCHESTER UNITED are still the richest football team in the world.

The latest list published by Forbes business magazine puts United’s wealth at £740million — a massive £212m more than second-placed Real Madrid.

Arsenal have leapfrogged AC Milan into third spot but Chelsea are down in eighth at £274m.

David Beckham has lost top spot to Ronaldinho as the world’s highest-

earning player but Forbes say his move to LA Galaxy could change that.

Ten Premiership sides appear on Forbes’ list of the world’s 25 most valuable teams followed by Italy (four), Germany (four), Spain (two), France (two), Scotland (two) and Holland (one).

Forbes, however, says United no longer command the largest yearly revenues as Real Madrid (£191m), Barcelona (£169m) and Juventus (£164m) — who all have individual TV deals — surpassed their £158m.

Louis Saha has an outside chance of playing against Blackburn at Old Trafford on Saturday after recovering from a hamstring injury. But the French striker is more likely to be rested until the clash with Portsmouth next week.

Midfielder Paul Scholes is available again after suspension, while Darren Fletcher (ankle) is still two weeks away from fitness.

Captain Gary Neville is expected to remain on the sidelines for another three weeks with ankle ligament damage.

Neville should now return either for the FA Cup semi-final against Watford on April 14 or the Premiership game against Sheffield United on April 17.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (knee) and Edwin van der Sar (calf) should return against Mark Hughes' Rovers.

Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly planning an ambitious bid to bring Manchester City defender Micah Richards to Old Trafford.


The United boss is hoping the England international becomes only the third City player in the past 70 years to make the switch to their Manchester rivals.


Although the Eastlands club have insisted all season that Richards is not for sale, the Sunday Mirror believe this will not prevent Ferguson from joining Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool in the race to sign him in the summer.


Chelsea will pose the main threat to capturing Richards but United and Liverpool will be boosted by the knowledge that the 18-year-old's fmaily are keen for him to remain in the north of England.


Ferguson is planning to spend big this summer even if his current squad win the Treble and Richards - alongside Owen Hargreaves, Gareth Bale, Deco and Nani - is at the top of a wish-list he'll present to the American owners.


A source close to Richards told the paper: "There is interest from United, but whether anything happens is another thing given the rivalry in Manchester."


Only Welsh striker Wyn Davies in 1972 and goalkeeper Tony Coton 11 years ago have moved from City to United since the 1930s.

Manchester United reportedly lining up a sensational £15million summer swoop for Barcelona's Deco.


The Catalan giants are planning to overhaul their squad at the end of this season and according to the News of the World Sir Alex Ferguson is planning to sign the unsettled Portuguese ace.


Deco has already hinted he wants a fresh challenge after three years at the Nou Camp and it is thought that bringing him to Old Trafford would help ensure Cristiano Ronaldo pens a contract with United.


Although Ronaldo's new deal is expected to be five years, there is still disputes over the pay with the player holding out for more than £100,000 per week in the summer.
