Totti Recovery Progressing Well
Francesco Totti is making a very speedy recovery from his knee operation, according to the Roma medical team
The Giallorossi skipper recently underwent surgery for a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, and is expected to spend up to six months on the sidelines.

However, the talismanic forward is noted for his remarkable powers of recovery, having played in the 2006 World Cup despite suffering a broken ankle only two weeks beforehand, and the club’s medical staff believe he could be back much sooner than expected if the progress he has made so far is anything to go by.

Chief medic Mario Brozzi said: “Francesco is doing very well and is continuing the rehabilitation process.”

“The knee has responded positively and doesn’t even look as if it has been operated on. He is walking normally without protection and can even flex the knee.

“There is everything to suggest one of those record recoveries that Totti is already accustomed to.”

Aquilani Comeback

Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani has not been so lucky as Totti when it comes to bouncing back from injuries, having suffered a seemingly never-ending list of setbacks in his short career.

But Brozzi is confident that the 23-year-old midfielder has all but fully recovered from the foot problem that has kept him out of action recently.

“On Friday he trained without problems,” Brozzi said. “We had set him a comeback date of four weeks and that seems to be the case.

“He has been running for a while and now the pain he had at the top of his foot is abating. I can say Aquilani’s recovery is pretty much complete.”

Totti Delighted With Speedy Recovery
Roma captain Francesco Totti returned to the training pitch this afternoon and he insists all is going well with his recovery.
Er Purpone ruptured his right knee ligaments several weeks ago in the 1-1 draw with Livorno which saw him miss the final season showdown with Inter.

The former Italy playmaker had surgery and he has been recovering well. He returned to the training pitch today to work with the football and his knee coped well as he put it through its paces with several strenuous exercises.

“Returning to the training pitch is a beautiful feeling,” Totti told Sky Sport Italia.

“We have to wait and see how everything goes but so far, so good.

“Hopefully I will be back for the Supercoppa against Inter as that is my objective.”

The Roma legend also had a few words for Jose Mourinho who has taken the reigns at the Nerazzurri.

“He (Mourinho) is a great coach and he has a great side at his disposal,” said Totti.

“I hope Inter don’t make too many important acquisitions.”

Roma finished runners-up in Serie A but they did beat Inter to hold onto their Coppa Italia crown

Totti will be hoping his rapid recovery continues in time for the new season as Roma look to mount a serious scudetto challenge.

Roma captain Francesco Totti netted the winner against Milan last week to take his Serie A tally to 177 goals, a figure which means he is now just one short of former Juventus and Italy striker Giampiero Boniperti, who is currently ninth in the all-time scoring chart with 178 goals to his name.

And Totti will have the opportunity to draw level, or even surpass, Boniperti in Roma’s final game of the Serie A season against Torino this afternoon.

“It’s an honour for me to think that I am in the running to reach Boniperti in the all-time scoring chart,” Totti told ANSA.

“I want to thank him for the words he said about me and it’s a pleasure to think I might equal his record and particularly it is an honour to be able to compare myself to a Calcio legend.”

Milan skipper Paolo Maldini will play his last game this afternoon and Totti still cannot explain why the veteran defender was jeered by his own fans last Sunday.

“He too is a Calcio legend,” mused Totti.

“And I am still wondering why he was criticised, after all he has done for Milan.

“I was surprised to find out that even icons are abused in our world.”
