SECOND TO NONE
Milan are ranked as the top team in Europe and with three Champions League finals in five years we wonder if there could have ever been a doubt in anyone's mind
MILAN - Three Champions League finals in the last five years. First up it was Inter, then PSV Eindhoven, then Barcelona and last but not least the date with Liverpool is fast approaching. The only regret over this period is not having met Porto in the 2004 semi-finals. However, if indeed there was a mistake made in that match it would be Milan's only one over a five year period and that is not something to be passed over in a top level competition like the Champions League.
Year after year, Milan have held their own in Europe to confirm that they are the top Italian side. No one in Italy and not even in Europe, has done what the Rossoneri have done over the last 20 years in the Champions Cup and Champions League. The Rossoneri boast an impressive four victories in the final (two with Sacchi and one apiece with Capello and Ancelotti), seven finals and nine semi-finals. And we couldn't agree more with what Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport-Stadio said when they wrote 'Seven finals in Europe in the last 20 years is amazing. It gives the sense of an absolute and stately power. Europe is another world and Milan command that world.'
The European rankings just go to confirm what we have always said, Milan are second to none:
Team Team Points Country Points UEFA coefficient
MILAN 107 22,020 129,020
Barcelona 103 24,006 127,006
Real Madrid 96 24,006 120,006
Inter 90 22,020 112,020
Juventus 85 22,020 107,020
Liverpool 85 20,950 105,950
Arsenal 81 20,950 101,950
Manchester United 80 20,950 100,950
Valencia 71 24,006 95,006
Olympique Lyon 73 16,757 89,757
(Milan have collected the following point totals over these five seasons: 19 in 2001-2002 after the UEFA Cup semi-final against Borussia Dortmund, 26 in 2002-2003 with the Champions League victory over Manchester United, 14 in 2003-2004 with a place in the quarter-finals, 27 in 2004-2005 after the final in Istanbul against Liverpool, 21 in 2005-2006 after the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona).
KAKA' IN GOAL
Kakà has almost scored as many goals in this one season's Champions League than he did in the last three combined
MILAN - Ricardo Kakà arrived at Milan in the summer of 2003, which is the same summer that Manchester United signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Sporting Lisbon. The Brazil star has scored an amazing 21 Champions League goals since then (60 in total if you include all official Rossoneri games). The only difference between now and then is that in previous season he has always scored more in Serie A than in the Champions League, but this year the tables have been turned. Here are the details:
GOALS KAKA' HAS SCORED IN OFFICIAL MILAN GAMES
2003-2004: 10 in Serie A - 4 in the Champions League
2004-2005: 7 in Serie A - 2 in the Champions League
2005-2006: 14 in Serie A - 5 in the Champions League
2006-2007: 8 in Serie A - 10 in the Champions League
