Eurosport.com offers a simple seven-point guide to Manchester United's title triumph this season.
1. Encourage youth to flourish
In Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, United have two of the most exciting talents in world football. Undisputed Premiership footballer of the year Ronaldo has been nothing short of sensational this season, and his development from an arrogant fancy Dan with a dreadful final ball to probably the most devastating player in the world in the space of 12 months has been incredible. His reaction to the boos and jeers following his antics at last year's World Cup? To realise all that potential Sir Alex Ferguson first saw in him and become a player opponents are terrified of facing. His silky skills and startling pace has put the wind up most defences he has played against this season, and he has even managed to score a few goals (17 in the Premiership to date). It is simple, in tandem with Rooney, there is no more exciting sight on a football pitch in this country. And Ronaldo's emergence as the golden boy of the English top flight has taken the pressure of Rooney somewhat, enabling the England striker to quietly go about his business. It may come as a surprise to some, but Rooney has weighed in with 14 goals this season; not bad for a player who some say has not performed to his high standards this year.
2. Get the most out of your ageing players
Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes have been at the top of the game for over a decade, but few expected the veteran pair to have such an influence of the destination of this year's Premiership trophy. Giggs' injury problems last year threatened to make him a bit part player this time round but a slight change of role has seen him star once again, and pick up his ninth Premiership medal. Scholes' form has been equally impressive, especially after a lengthy layoff with an eye condition, and without him in the midfield, the title surely would not be residing once again at Old Trafford.
3. Get it right at the back
Steve Bruce and Gary Pallister; Jaap Stam and Ronny Johnson; and now Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand - all central defensive partnerships on which title triumphs have been built. Vidic in particular has been a rock at the back for United, and it came as no surprise that the Serbian stopper's absence through injury in the latter stages of the season threatened to derail United's title bid. The pair were reunited against City on Saturday, where they helped keep a clean sheet, and a day later the trophy was back in the Old Trafford cabinet room.
4. Get lucky with injuries
Whilst United's injury worries towards the end of the season, particularly at the back, posed a few problems, the rest of the season was relatively injury-free, leaving Ferguson to pick his best 11 players week in, week out. That kind of continuity undoubtedly benefited United, while over at Chelsea, much of their failure to hold on to the trophy can be put down to a defensive crisis sparked by injury to John Terry.
5. Stick with new signings
When Michael Carrick signed for United last summer in a deal worth £18.5 million, few believed he would become the 'new Roy Keane'. He has not, and will not never, become 'Roy Keane', unless he excels in management once his playing days are over, that is. But after a slow start, during which a few eyebrows were raised at his the amount paid for him, the former Spurs midfielder has blossomed and grown into his role in the middle of the park and he has managed to shrug off the imposing expectations put on his shoulders with a fine season.
6. Get on with your bosses
Chelsea have struggled to cope with problems away from the pitch this season and the Shevchenko-Mourinho-Abramovic love triangle, which culminated in rumours of the manager's departure this summer, is sure to have unsettled the Blues more than they will admit to. Compare that with United. Not everyone associated with the club was over the moon about the Glazer family's takeover at Old Trafford, but for all their ticket price increases and no-shows on match-days, they have not once interfered with Ferguson's running of the team.
7. Win back the public's favour
There was a time, not so long ago, when the whole country hated Manchester United. Not so now (although that is likely to change in time for the start of next season) mainly because of the style in which United have won this year's title. For two years now, Chelsea have proved that you do not have to play attractive football to win a Premiership crown (unlike United and Arsenal before them) and that, along with Roman Abramovic's mega-bucks spending policy, has created no little resentment towards the Stamford Bridge club. United became the standard-bearers of a campaign for exciting football this season as everyone, Merseyside and the blue half of Manchester excepted, found themselves willing the Reds to pip Chelsea to the title.
