Sneijder ruled out for Holland

The in-form Wesley Sneijder has been ruled out of Holland’s Group G game against Albania on Wednesday.

Sneijder injured his ankle during training on Monday and the news that he will be unavailable for the Albania clash will come as a huge blow to coach Marco Van Basten.

Sneijder has been enjoying a rich vein of form for new club Real Madrid and got his name on the scoresheet during Holland’s 2-0 win at home to Bulgaria on Saturday.

The Oranje currently lie second in Group G, three points behind leaders Romania but with Bulgaria snapping at their heels just two more points adrift.

However, Van Basten will have been boosted by the fitness of Rafael Van Der Vaart who has recovered well enough from a calf injury to travel with the rest of the squad on Tuesday.

არ შეიძლება ეგეთი ცდების ჩატარება. დიდი ნაბოზვარი გუნდია ეს ალბანეთი. თუმცა ვესლის გარეშეც არ უნდა შეგვექმნას არანაირი პრობლემა წესით.

Vitesse defender set for foot scan

Vitesse Arnhem defender Paul Verhaegh is to have an MRI scan on his foot on Monday evening to assess the extent of an injury he picked up earlier in the season.

The 24-year-old (pictured) has featured in all three of Vitesse’s opening games of the season despite carrying the problem, but club officials are now anxious to uncover the true severity of the injury.

In contrast Vitesse coach Aad de Mos received a boost with the return to training of midfielder Theo Janssen.

The Holland international has been sat on the sidelines since July when he underwent an operation on his knee.

However, he is still a doubt for the club’s Eredivisie game against PSV Eindhoven on Saturday which comes too early in his recovery.
