Juve chief: No Scudetto yet Tuesday 21 August, 2007

Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has admitted that Old Lady’s chances of winning the Scudetto are slim.
There are mixed opinions around the peninsula as to how Juve will readjust to life amongst the elite.
After a pre-season of highs and lows, most Bianconeri players and officials agree that Champions League qualification is the limit of their realistic aspirations and it would seem that the club’s chief agrees.
“Our objective for the season is to get an automatic Champions League spot,” Cobolli Gigli admitted.
“But I must admit that fourth place would be fine. The Scudetto is only a dream this season.”
The new recruits are yet to gel and have looked a little uncertain in friendlies, but the Juve chief doesn’t seem too worried yet.
“The team is how Claudio Ranieri planned it,” he insisted. “Clearly it takes time for a side with so many new players and youngsters.
“I’m certain that even in the first game against Livorno we will look like a more solid, well-oiled team and over time we will find the right balance.”
Finally, Cobolli Gigli addressed the question of captain Alessandro Del Piero’s contract negotaitions which have hit unforeseen complications.
“Renewing Del Piero’s contract is imperative for us,” the 61-year-old concluded. “The next week may not be decisive, but over the next few weeks there will be discussions.”
