Almiron: “I'm here to grow even more”The moment has arrived for Sergio Almiron's big break. The Argentine midfielder has finally fulfilled his dream of joining a big club. It is his big chance and on his first day as a Juventus player he showed that his mind is clear.
“Joining a big team is everybody's dream. I join a group made up of many great players who certainly possess more experience than me. That's why my goal is to keep up with them and keep learning. I'm aware that I'm part of an exceptional team and I'll try to do my share. What are our targets for the season? It's too early to say, we need a little more time to understand our true potential, but we aim to go as far as possible. I hope this experience can also help me to reach the National team”.
Grygera: 'I’m at Ranieri's disposal'His name was already on the official list of new Juventus signings in February, but the player has reached Turin only yesterday. His contract with Ajax ended in June, and Zdenek Grygera, the twenty seven-year old defender from the Czech Republic, is now a Juventus player in every respect. He is not worried about not being among the names Claudio Ranieri chose. 'I was chosen by the club before the new manager arrived, but I don't consider this to be a problem. Ranieri can employ me any way he wants: I can adapt to different roles, I call myself a universal player. Being here is what really counts: Juventus are a great team and I'm happy to wear this shirt. I'll try and give my best'.
Iaquinta: 'I would've come here even in Serie B'He has won the World Cup, but he still hasn't won much in the League. Vincenzo Iaquinta, one of Juventus' biggest signings, after seven seasons at Udinese, reaches the apex of football: Juventus.
'In the last year my career has gone into overdrive: first the World Cup, then playing in the Champions League with Udinese, and now - Juventus. I've grown a lot and feel that I'm ready for this big step: at last I can show my worth, I've been waiting a long time to move to a big club. And Juventus are a big club, I would've come here even in Serie B, you can't turn this club down. I know it won't be easy for me: there are a lot of good players here and we'll have to try and remain close, without rivalries. Just like at the World Cup: we'll have to accept the turnover. I for one put myself at the service of the team and of the manager. What are our aims? I don't like to make big claims: but I'm sure we'll do very well and we'll have a great season. We have nothing to envy AC Milan and Inter Milan. Indeed, we have made better signings than those teams. It'll be a great battle.'
Salihamidzic: 'My name is difficult to pronounce? Just call me Brazzo'Pronouncing the name Hasan Salihamidzic is quite a feat. But he has the solution: 'Just call me Brazzo' - which literally means ‘brother’. The Bosnian midfielder joins Juventus after nine seasons at Bayern Munich and a long list of honours (six Bundesliga titles, four German Cups, three German League Cups, a Champions League and an Intercontinental Cup in 2001).
'Juventus is a great challenge for me: over the course of nine years at Bayern I've gained a lot of experience and now I want to make use of it here in Italy. I can cover various roles, the manager Mr. Ranieri will decide, I will concentrate on doing well. What happened to this club last year is difficult to understand for us foreigners: but the past is gone, this season is what counts. Will it be hard? Of course, but we're Juventus: we respect our rivals but we don't fear them. We have an excellent team, with many great players. We have all that is needed. As for me, I'll try and give my best. The Italian League is one of the hardest and most prestigious in the world: it'll be a great experience for me, I can't wait to begin'.
Tiago: 'I want to win the Championship and get back into the Champions League'For the Portuguese player Tiago Cardoso Mendes, like others, wearing the Juventus strip is a challenge: for him, the most important one of a distinguished career spent at some of the best clubs in Europe (Benfica, Mourinho's Chelsea and Lyon).
´I know this will be a demanding season but I'll try and give my best: I'm at the Manager's disposal and I can adapt to any role. The club comes from a difficult period but we have all we need to aim for the top. My targets are winning the Championship and getting back into the Champions League. Is the absence from European competitions a problem for me? Not at all, we'll be back next year. And in any case, you can't say no to Juventus, even if they're not playing the Champions League. But enough with the past: Juventus are a great team, all those problems have been solved and we must think about the future now. As far as I'm concerned, I hope to become a significant part of the club's history, like other Portuguese players before me, first and foremost Paulo Sousa and Rui Barros'.
