Whether Thierry Henry stays or goes, according to today's papers Arsenal are preparing for the worst.
Despite being quick to deny that he has already agreed a deal with Barcelona, the Frenchman is still to commit his long-term future to Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger is determined not to be caught cold. There's no smoke without fire.
Trez bon: David Trezeguet can be Arsenal's fox in the box
'TREZ BON', says the Sun, who believe David Trezeguet could be on his way to the Emirates Stadium.
Apparently, Trezeguet is refusing to sign a new contract at Juventus and would cost as little as £5m. At 29, he is older than Wenger's usual transfer targets, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
According to the Star, Trezeguet won't be the only forward heading to North London. Ryan Babel, the 20-year-old Ajax striker, who has already been capped 14 times by Holland, has also caught Wenger's eye.
The Star tells us that Babel will cost £6m and a move would signal the end of Freddie Ljungberg's career at Arsenal, with Porstmouth and West Ham monitoring the situation.
Speaking of West Ham, the Star also suggest they are poised to sign Darren Bent from Charlton for a whopping £18m, offering him a contract worth around £80,000-a-week. The paper informs us that Bent is valued at £15m, with Marlon Harewood and Hayden Mullins acting as makeweights in the deal.
Over to the Mirror, and Rafa Benitez wants to make Barcelona teenager Marc Crosas his latest cut-price summer deal, ensuring their is still plenty left in the coffers to sign Portuguese winger Simao Sambrosa for £12m from Benfica.
And the Mirror also says Mario Melchiot has agreed to become new Wigan manager Chris Hutchings' third signing, while Sammy Lee is aiming to beat the man he replaced at the Bolton helm, Sam Allardyce, to the signature of Turkey's Gokdeniz Karadeniz.
Karadeniz is low down on Allardyce's list of priorities, though, reveals the Sun. The man Big Sam wants is Nicky Shorey, with Newcastle desperate for reinforcements at left-back and more than willing to pay the £5m asking price.
