Celtic, Bilbao battle for Barcelona's Ezquerro


Celtic and Athletic Bilbao are battling for Barcelona striker Santi Ezquerro.

A return to Bilbao has stalled after Barca refused to grant Ezquerro a free transfer. This has opened the door to Celtic, which has greater spending power than their Spanish rivals.

However, both clubs could be trumped by Osasuna, which made contact with Barca yesterday for the 30 year-old.

Lazio eyeing Barcelona's Motta


Lazio are interested in Barcelona midfielder Thiago Motta.

Leggo says the Brazilian has emerged as a top target for Lazio president Claudio Lotito, who will be reluctant to cough up a big fee for the midfielder.

Meanwhile, Lotito is also keen to explore the possibility of signing Nigerian star Victor Obinna from relegated Chievo Verona.

Barcelona midfielder Deco has revealed that he would like to work with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho again.

Deco told The Sun: "The idea of working with Jose again appeals to me.

"He was a huge influence on my career and he did so much for me. I’ve worked with him before and it would be good to work with him again."

He continued: "There has been a lot of speculation about my future but at the moment that is all it is.

"Right now I’m a Barcelona player and I am just looking forward to the new season and trying to win the league.

"But football can change very quickly. If Barcelona want to sell me then all they have to do is say and I will go.

"It wouldn't upset me if I had to go because I know there are other big clubs in the world I could play for.

"Every player wants to play for Barcelona and I’ve loved being here but if the manager decides I’m not part of his plans, then I will leave."

He added: "The Premier League is definitely on a par with La Liga - and playing there absolutely appeals to me.

"Right now though I think England and Spain are just that little bit better.

"The English league is a possibility and it would definitely be somewhere I'd like to play.

"There's no doubt that you can compare Manchester United and Chelsea to Barcelona. They are both huge clubs and playing for clubs like that would always be an attractive proposition."

Gudjohnsen left behind

arcelona have confirmed that Eidur Gudjohnsen will not be going on their tour Asia.

Gudjohnsen is suffering with a knee problem and Barca have stressed that this is the reason he will not be travelling.

The Icelander missed the pre-season trip to Scotland and he has not yet recovered enough to link-up with the first-team squad, who face three games in Asia beginning on August 5.

However, Spanish reports insist that West Ham, along with Newcastle and Manchester City, will continue their bids to prise him away from Camp Nou and it is the interest which has led to Barca's decision to leave him behind.

The player himself has always insisted that he is willing to fight for his role with the Catalan giants.

But the interested Premier League clubs are looking to tempt him back to England and the chance of regular first-team football could yet sway the former Bolton man.

MOTTA WANTS TO BE FREE

Thiago Motta has hit out at Barcelona for hindering his exit from the club after Txiki Begiristain went public in his desire to sell the player.

The Blaugrana are said to have asked Motta to hold talks with Milan and Real Zaragoza who have both registered their interest in signing him.

After being told that he was not part of Barca's plans next season the 24-year-old has said that he will go, but only on a free transfer.

"I am surprised that Txiki has said publicly that they do not want me," he said.

"That only obstructs my ability to negotiate with other clubs.

"Milan and Zaragoza are great clubs and is obvious that I cannot discard either.

"I have come to the conclusion, however, that I want to be given a free transfer to allow me to search for a new club.

"At the moment I have talked with Barca once and there has been no news and I have to resolve things with Txiki and then I can talk to other clubs."
