Sunny: My Valencia Dream DebutsStephen "Sunny" Sunday recently arrived at Valencia from Poli Ejido, the young Spanish-Nigerian midfielder rejecting interest from abroad to commit his future to Los Che. Now, he's spoken of his delight at the prospect of debuting in both La Liga and the Champions League...This time last year, Stephen 'Sunny' Sunday was playing second division football at the age of 17. Now, he's about to turn 19, and has just made his Liga debut after signing for Valencia - with a Champions League match set to follow.
Sunny played 55 Segunda games for Poli Ejido and, in doing so, attracted attention from clubs ranging from Manchester United to Napoli.
In the end, though, he opted for Valencia - and could not be happier with his decision.
The player said that, by playing against Villarreal in La Liga, he had "fulfilled a dream", and is delighted at the prospect of debuting "in the Liga and the Champions League."
The 18 year old continued that he is delighted with "my treatment right now from my companions and the fans," and is confident ahead of the impending campaign.
He added, "I believe that we're strong, and working well in preparation to face Valladolid.
"At the moment, we're looking forward to the return of our international players to work with the squad."
Sunny himself brushed aside fitness concerns and declared himself ready for Matchday 3.
"I have had a few minor annoyances, but I'm perfectly fine, and I am looking forward to both training and playing," he concluded.
Sunny has represented Spain at both U-19 and U-20 levels.
