"I think we're all happy with the fact that I'm finally here"
Robben's signing has been an icredibly long affair, but the player was finally presented today as the Club's new signing. After the act, he gave his first press conference as a Real Madrid player
Are you ready to play on Saturday?
I had a little problem with my knee and had to have surgery last year, but I’ve been training this week and I played in a friendly with Chelsea yesterday. I played for an hour. I think I’m ready. I’m going to train with the squad this evening and I hope everyone thinks I can play.
Did you expect such a warm welcome from the fans? Does that make you assume more responsibilities?
It was more than I expected. I didn’t really know what to expect, although I saw parts of the presentations of Royston and Wesley. I felt and incredible feeling when I walked down those steps. The fans’ welcome was amazing and it motivates me even more to do well for the Club.

I guess you feel relieved now that everything’s over...
I felt greatly relieved yesterday when the final word came. It’s been a difficult time for me because I’ve been waiting since the first day I started training with Chelsea, so it really is a big relief and I’m enjoying every moment of it.
Did you ever think a club would pay 36 million euros for you?
I know it’s a lot of money, but I think it shows the interest Real Madrid had in me. This gives me a lot of confidence. They proved to be willing to do anything to get me here in the last few weeks. I’m happy the decision to join them came yesterday.
What has your professional relationship with Mourinho given you?
I had three great years with him, especially on a personal level. I won every title there is in England, so I’m very satisfied with that. Unfortunately, I was injured many times during my time at Chelsea and I couldn’t create the impact I wanted. I think I had a very good first season, but from then on I was unlucky. I see this as a new start and a new challenge without injuries. I hope I can stay out of that dreaded infirmary room.
Did you ever think Chelsea wouldn’t let you go?
It is a great honour to be one of the President’s promises during his campaign. I think we are all happy I’m here. It was hard for me to come, it took a very long time. There were moments in which I thought I was coming to Madrid the following day, but that never eventually happen. In the end, I got here. I wanted to be here and I’m happy everything worked out in the end.
Here in Spain people think you are a ‘glass’ left winger because you get injured very often...
I will prove that isn’t true, that’s all I can do. The most frustrating thing for a player is to get injured. Most times there is nothing you can do about it besides working hard to come back. I want to make a new start here. I know I’m strong and that I can do it. I’m full of confidence.
Do you feel that Chelsea maybe didn’t do too much to make you stay?
I think they did at an earlier stay, but I didn’t get the confidence I needed from them and I started changing my mind. When a massive club like Real Madrid comes knocking on your door I think the decision is easy to make. It gives you a lot of confidence. They really wanted me to come here and I decided to go where I thought I would be happier.
I think it's gonna rain when I die...
I guess I can go anywhere I want. If only I knew where to go
