Barça Clinch Controversial Cup WinFC Barcelona came from two goals behind to reach the Catalunya Cup Final after beating Girona 3-2 in Palamós, but the game was shrouded in controversy.
Having selected 14 youth teams players for his 20-man squad, Frank Rijkaard picked five first-teamers in his starting line-up as Albert Jorquera was in goal, Rafa Márquez, Oleguer and Sylvinho played in defence and Santi Ezquerro was in midfield.
Despite their experience, the quintet were not impressive against a Girona side that were not over-awed by the experience and prevented Barça from playing their quick passing game for long periods.
Chances were few and far between in the opening half with the Blaugrana's most notable opportunities coming when Jeffren Suárez saw a shot tipped over and Márquez drove a free-kick straight at the keeper.
Just after the hour mark, Rijkaard's side were stunned when Márquez lost possession in midfield and the ball ended up at the feet of Chechu, who fired it across Jorquera and into the far side of the net.
Five minutes later and Girona doubled their advantage as Uri was left unmarked at the far post to head home a cross from ten yards out.
It appeared that Barça had a mountain to climb, given their display until that moment, but they were gifted a way back into the game a minute later as Migue met a high ball into the area unchallenged and managed to steer it past his keeper.
The avalanche of goals continued when the Blaugrana were awarded a dubious penalty in the 70th minute after Sylvinho clearly dived over a challenge, but did it convincingly enough to fool the referee.
Santi Ezquerro made up for a tepid performance as he cheekily chipped the ball down the centre of the goal from 12 yards to beat the keeper and draw Barça level.
Sylvinho then showed that he does not have to resort to tricks as he powered forward in minute 73 and drove the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the area.
Girona were behind for the first time, but having had two penalty shouts already turned down the third one was far more clear cut.
A ball into the area was met by Larios on the half-volley, but his effort was blocked by Botía's arm as the Barça defender followed its flight.
The hosts appealed, but the referee waved away their protests and as FC Barcelona edged into the final where they will face Gimnàstic.
