Lippi eyes coaching return
Thursday 25 October, 2007
World Cup winning Coach Marcello Lippi has indicated that he is ready to return to the game and admitted a desire to work in England.
The ex-Juventus tactician has been working as a TV pundit since Italy’s triumph in Berlin, but has always insisted that he would return to the bench if the right job came along.
“I’m not thinking about any specific club, but I am ready to return to work,” Lippi told Gazzetta.it. “Working on TV has been fun, but it is just a phase.”
Lippi has been linked with jobs all over Europe, including Premier League posts and the Milan hot seat.
“I’d like to Coach in England, but I can’t speak the language and that is a big handicap in football as your job is to manage people,” the 59-year-old stated.
“As for Milan, they already have a great boss and he is a fantastic man to have in charge.”
There have also been suggestions that Lippi may make a sensational return to the national side, possibly as an advisor to Roberto Donadoni.
“Donadoni doesn’t need my help as he is a top Coach,” Lippi declared.
“This Azzurri team is a fantastic group and they have only drawn and lost once against France.
“I’m sure that they will show their world champion class against Scotland and qualify.”
Lippi concluded by giving his recommendation for the European Footballer of the Year award.
“I think that Andrea Pirlo deserves the Ballon d’Or,” he stated.
“He has won as much as Kaka and he is a World Cup winner.
“Pirlo is now rated highly all over the world and is one of few players who can be a figurehead to a side.”
