No suspension to season? Thursday 15 November, 2007 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is believed that Serie A and Serie B will recommence on the weekend of Saturday November 24 as scheduled.
Reports suggest that a meeting called by Italian Football Federation President Giancarlo Abete decided that the cancellation of this weekend’s Serie B and C fixtures was sufficient.
There had been calls from some sources to suspend the season for weeks and even months after the violence caused by the death of Lazio fan Gabriele Sandri.
It has not yet been decided whether some games will be played behind closed doors.
Atalanta are unlikely to be allowed to play in front of their home fans for the foreseeable future after sections of their support smashed the security glass at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia causing the abandonment of the Orobici’s game against Milan last weekend.
Club President Ivan Ruggeri has even suggested that he may give all the tickets away to children in a bid to clean up the Bergamo side's image.
Fan ban for 15 Thursday 15 November, 2007 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fans of 15 clubs won’t be allowed to travel to their next away games as a result of last weekend’s events.
The measure is part of an effort to clamp down on violent clashes in Italy’s stadiums after the explosive reaction to the shooting of Gabriele Sandri.
It has not yet been confirmed that the season will restart on the weekend of November 24, but whispers suggest that it is highly likely.
The six Serie A teams who will travel without fans are: Atalanta, Catania, Milan, Roma, Sampdoria and Torino.
Supporters of Sere B sides Bari and Cesena are also forbidden from attending their fixtures, as are Serie C outfits Potenza, Reggiana, Taranto, Ternana and Verona.
The other two sides to be ruled against are amateurs Gragnano and Turris from Serie D/H and D/I respectively.
There is no decision on Napoli yet. Neapolitan fans have been exiled from several games this term, including last weekend’s Derby del Sud against Palermo, but the ban may be lifted.
