Ancelotti's Jekyll and Hyde side Sunday 21 October, 2007

Carlo Ancelotti admits Milan are “a team with two faces” and will confront his players about their appalling home form.
“On Monday I will confront the squad. We have spoken about this game between ourselves to see what we can do,” he said after the shock 1-0 defeat to Empoli.
“The season has a long way to go, but right now our thoughts cannot be with the Scudetto so much as just trying to improve. On home turf we have managed just three points in four games. That is a negative result and we have seen far too much difference between the way we play at home and away.”
The Rossoneri have not won a single game in front of their home fans in Serie A this season, but before the break for international duty had thrashed Lazio 5-1 at the Olimpico.
“Milan are paradoxically better away from home where they have more space to move around in. We are a team with two faces, as at Lazio we won with roughly the same line-up.”
There was one major difference, as Ballon d’Or candidate Kaka was left in the stands ahead of the crucial Champions League match with Shakhtar Donetsk.
“Kaka is important for a team like ours, but it is beyond doubt we need to do better than this when he’s not in the side. This cannot be the Milan performance without Kaka,” continued Ancelotti.
“The problem is that in tight spaces we don’t have the necessary quality and movement to create a few more chances. Alberto Gilardino and Pippo Inzaghi were pegged back by the excessive slowness of the team in home games.”
Empoli had only ever won at San Siro once before, also a 1-0 result in 2003, but lost the other seven visits here.
