Dondarini exiled to B?
Monday 25 February, 2008
Referee Paolo Dondarini could face a lengthy suspension after his controversial performance in Juventus’ defeat against Reggina on Saturday.
The Bologna native was widely criticised for denying Juventus two penalties and awarding Reggina a dubious late spot-kick at the Stadio Granillo.
According to reports in La Gazzetta dello Sport, Dondarini will be out of top-flight action for two months and will have to spend time in Serie B.
Mauro Bergonzi received a similar punishment after the Napoli-Juventus game in October when two hotly debated penalties were awarded to the Vesuviani.
The pressure is mounting on referee designator Pierluigi Collina as calls for the introduction of foreign referees intensify.

Football Italia rounds up the winners and the losers from Week 24 of the Serie A season
The winners…
Marco Borriello (Genoa)
He may not have the household name of Alessandro Del Piero or Antonio Cassano but Borriello is making a forceful case for a place at Euro 2008. This season's surprise package fired his second hat-trick of the campaign to lift Genoa to victory over Udinese and move top of the scoring chart with a handsome 15 goals.
Emanuele Calaiò (Napoli)
A hero in the lower Leagues, Calaiò had been reduced to benchwarmer status this term, but he emphatically seized his chance in Livorno. The Sicilian's match-winning brace could spark a timely renaissance.
Pippo Inzaghi (Milan)
It may have been over a year since his last Serie A goal, but Super Pippo hasn't lost his sense of timing. His last-gasp winner over Palermo could prove so very valuable to Milan come May.
The losers…
Mohamed Sissoko (Juventus)
The Bianconeri new boy had a miserable night in Calabria. He was denied a clear penalty, missed a gilt-edged chance, misplaced a host of passes and gave away the decisive spot-kick at the death.
Joacquin Larrivey (Cagliari)
Time is running out for the Argentine hitman. Widely seen as one of the summer's worst buys, Larrivey looked scarily impotent against Lazio. He was taken off to jeers only to see his replacement Alessandro Matri hit the winner.
Domenico Di Carlo (Parma)
As if the pressure wasn't intense enough, Di Carlo saw his Parma side throw away a 4-1 lead against Torino. The former Mantova Coach's maiden Serie A voyage looks almost certain to end in shipwreck.
The goals…
Marco Borriello (Genoa)
A contender for goal of the season. With his back to goal the striker flicked up the ball to set it up for a powerful turn and volley into the top corner, all with his left foot.
Stefano Morrone (Parma)
The pick of the bunch in a crazy game in Turin, a corner was cleared to the D where Morrone unleashed a perfect right-foot volley under the bar.
Hernan Crespo (Inter)
The mark of a great striker is being able to score with half a chance, which is precisely what Crespo did with this accurate glancing header into the far bottom corner from Dejan Stankovic’s cross.
The numbers…
Recipe for goals
Prepare for fireworks when Genoa and Udinese clash. An extraordinary 5-3 at the Stadio Friulani made it 25 goals in the last five games between the two sides.
Totti equals Losi
Francesco Totti reached another milestone in Roma's win over Fiorentina by making his 386th appearance in Serie A and matching the total set by Giallorossi legend Giacomo Losi.
Six of the best
Roma have gone six games at the Stadio Olimpico without conceding. A 1-0 win over Fiorentina made it 619 minutes since Alexander Doni picked the ball out of the net in the Eternal City.
