Cañizares: I'm Not HappySantiago Canizares has declared himself unhappy with his recent form, although he feels that one day he can return to his best...Valencia goalkeeper Santiago Canizares has endured a torrid season so far, undergoing rotation with Timo Hildebrand and being party to some errors between the goalposts.
He's all too aware that this is not an ideal state of affairs.
"On a personal level, I'm not happy," he told Marca.
"I've gone through a lot to improve, and I suffered some difficult times physically - not other ways - although I think that these have already been recovered.
"Certainly I made a big mistake as I tried to play despite having physical problems, which hurt me and the team."
With that out in the open, a fully-fit Canizares is confident that he can return to form.
"I'm not happy with my performances, but I now have the time to fix the situation," he continued.
"It's not an excuse: I blame myself for what's happened, but now I want to compensate for it with good performances.
"If it benefits Valencia, that's what we intended. If it benefits the coach, then it's the least I can do to thank him."
Much has been made of Canizares' squad competition with Hildebrand, but the former Spanish international would not be drawn on this issue.
"We are part of a debate that serves only to drive the business of the media," he sniffed.
"We have a relationship of absolute respect. There are no problems. He is a good partner.
"When he was signed, I said I felt there was no need, and I took a lot of criticism. I think the best I can do now is accept the decision so as to avoid more criticism.
"The team? We need to change the way we play and do a lot better, because we have the capacity to do so and the coach has requested it of us."
