Iniesta Pens 7-Year Barça Contract
Barcelona midfielder Andrés Iniesta has put pen to paper on a new contract that will keep him at the Camp Nou until 2014.
zoom - galleria Iniesta has been one of Barcelona's most impressive performers so far this season and has continued to improve on some good performances in the last campaign.
Barça's great rivals Real Madrid were said to be interested in the midfielder over the summer and were willing to pay the 60 million Euro release clause in his previous contract in order to get their man.
Iniesta stated at the time that he was perfectly content at Barcelona and wanted to stay with them until he retired, forcing Madrid to drop their interest, although it was thought that they may come in with another offer in the summer of 2008.
This has prompted Barcelona to adhere to Iniesta's request for an improved contract, which adds four years to his previous deal and no doubt increases his buy-out clause as well as his weekly wage.
Iniesta, 23, has been part of the setup at the Camp Nou since he was spotted by their scouts at the age of 12 playing for a junior team of his local side Albacate and taken into their youth academy.
He made his debut for the senior side in 2002 and has featured on a fairly regular basis ever since. His new deal will keep him at the club until the age of 30.
