Boumsong in Lazio link Wednesday 2 January, 2008
Lazio have expressed an interest in signing forgotten Juventus defender Jean Alain Boumsong, reports are suggesting.
The Turin-based Tuttosport newspaper claims that the capital club are pondering a move for the Frenchman as they look to replace the frozen out Guglielmo Stendardo.
Boumsong has become a luxury reserve at Juve after Giorgio Chiellini and Nicola Legrottaglie gave the Bianconeri a touch of much needed steel to the centre of their defence.
It’s understood that Boumsong’s availability was discussed when the two clubs held initial talks over a possible swap deal which could see Lorenzo De Silvestri move north, with Antonio Mirante going in the other direction.
Lazio boss Delio Rossi would be happy to welcome the French international to his ranks, but there is one major obstacle.
The former Newcastle flop’s wages are well above the salary cap imposed by chief Claudio Lotito and they would require Juventus to help fund the switch.
Boumsong was brought to Turin by previous boss Didier Deschamps in the summer of 2006 after the club were demoted to Serie B for their part in Calciopoli.
Almiron nets Greek offer Wednesday 2 January, 2008
Sergio Almiron’s agent has confirmed that Olympiacos are the latest side to show an interest in the Juventus player.
“I can confirm an offer from the Greeks,” said Claudio Vagheggi on Wednesday. “But I can also state that a number of other important European clubs have been in touch too, as well as River Plate.”
The Argentine’s future in Turin is in jeopardy given his struggles with Juventus since his £6.5m transfer from Empoli.
Having started the campaign as a first choice, he’s been relegated to the bench as boss Claudio Ranieri has opted for a Cristiano Zanetti and Antonio Nocerino partnership.
“I’ll meet up with the Juventus directors over the next few days,” added Vagheggi. “For now it seems as if the club want to keep him for at least until the end of the season.
“There is a desire to give him a chance and the player himself wants to repay the club for that kind of belief.
“However, the transfer window is about to open and things can change from one minute to another in this game.
“Saying that, I would expect him to remain. If he is sold then that would only occur at the end of the season.
“For now, Almiron is calm seeing as he has a five-year contract. We will then evаluate everything at the end of the campaign.”
Whispers had suggested that Fiorentina could make a New Year bid, but Vagheggi insists there has been no contact.
“I’ve not spoken to [Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo] Corvino,” he noted. “It’s too soon to talk of a move, let us just see how the situation evolves.”
Clubs queue up for Amauri Wednesday 2 January, 2008
Milan, Juventus and Barcelona are all set to fight it out on the summer transfer market for Palermo ace Amauri.
The attacking sensation is again underlining his pedigree as one of the peninsula’s most gifted strikers and it’s no surprise that he’s caught the eye of Europe’s big boys.
Having been compared to Didier Drogba by current Palermo boss Francesco Guidolin on a number of occasions, Amauri is set to be sold for around £16m in the summer.
Reports in Italy on Wednesday claim that it will be an Italian tussle between Milan and Juventus for the former Chievo man.
It’s claimed that the Rossoneri already have an agreement in place with his agent, Mariano Grimaldi, but Juventus are on better terms with Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini.
The latter would be keen to sell to the Bianconeri seeing as he could also cash in on Andrea Barzagli to the Turin giants as part of a bigger deal.
Juventus’ interest in the powerful forward was confirmed by respected football agent Vincenzo Morabito over the Christmas period.
“Juventus are already preparing a David Trezeguet-Amauri pairing for June,” he stated. “He is wanted as he already knows how the Italian championship works.”
However, contrasting whispers from the peninsula this morning are claiming that Barcelona are in with a chance of luring Amauri.
The Nou Camp outfit are reportedly ready to pump in the cash necessary for the Brazilian hitman who struggled to impress during spells at Piacenza and Napoli.
Amauri, who has also been linked with Liverpool recently, is on the verge of gaining an Italian passport which would give him EU citizenship.
The paperwork would also make him eligible to represent Italy should the Azzurri call and Carlos Dunga continues to snub him for Brazil.
