MILAN - It was decided by him, his class, his moves, his unstoppable desire to surprise. Alexandre Pato put his mark on a match that had been difficult, complicated, until the Brazilian talent decide to turn on the turbo. His total of goals scored at San Siro now rises to three. After the goal against Napoli, he scored a crucial brace which gives Carlo Ancelotti's team the three points.
Alexandre Pato not only solved the match with his goals, but changed the match with his amazing runs supported by the wing play of Oddo and Maldini. Once the match became more open, the Rossoneri's play found in Pato an ideal scalpel to dismount Gasperini's defence. Also, as he made a dangerous run towards the goal from midfield, he provoked a desperate exit by Rubinho who went outside his area and was sent off for a handball.
After a slow-paced first half, in which Milan failed to create real goalscoring chances, the match changed in the second half. The push of Milan's wing players and the gritty midfield play of a splendid Massimo Ambrosini allowed Pato to make his runs up front. The first goal came thanks to a header from close range while the second came after a nice run and lob over Scarpi.
In the meantime, as said, goalkeeper Rubinho was sent off for coming out of his area and touching the ball to prevent Pato from scoring an almost certain goal.
Pato was crucial because before his explosion, Milan hadn't had it easy against a well-organized Genoa side who were often dangerous through the counterattacks of the Sculli-Borriello-Rossi trio. The Rossoneri's play, which was too reliant on Kaká's moves seemed to have foreshadowed an umpteenth unprolific day, the typical San Siro match of a few months ago.
One thing is for sure, Alexandre Pato's arrival has given Carlo Ancelotti new solutions, new ways of attacking independently of the attacking partner of the young player. Without Ronaldo or Gilardino, the Brazilian showed he is able to carry the entire Milan team on his shoulders. That's no small feat, and Carlo Ancelotti can now enjoy having another world-class champion at his disposal.
