Doni 6.5 – Helpless for the goal but dealt with what he could and impressed in tipping behind Seedorf’s drive.
Cicinho 6.0 – Strange game where he flitted between awesome and inept. Certainly showed great ability to get forward even if he didn’t always make the most of it.
Panucci 7.0 – Assured display from the veteran in a fill-in role
Juan 6.0 – Looked commanding at times but very nervous during Milan’s second-half rally. Was lucky Pato took a dive after skinning him rather than doing something constructive.
Tonetto 6.0 – Boundless energy as he raced up and down the wing but delivered countless poor crosses
De Rossi 8.0 – Super display. Had a slow start but really came into this own after 25 minutes, dominated Gattuso et al and laid on the game-winning pass.
Pizarro 6.0 – Justified his inclusion before the break with a solid showing but faded badly in the second half and deserved to be subbed.
Taddei 6.5 – Kept missing the target with his balls into the box but nevertheless gave Favalli a tough time.
Perrotta 7.0 – Tireless performance and linked well with both Totti and the holding midfielders
Mancini 6.5 – Unlucky to be subbed so early because he wasn’t having a bad game – but nobody can query the decision.
Totti 7.5 – Was given poor service but unlike Pato he didn’t let that stop him from making a top contribution. Dropping deep or going wide, he was involved in nearly all of Roma’s attacks despite not scoring.
Substitutes
56mins Vucinic (7.5) – An inspired substitution that revitalised a tiring Roma attack
62mins Giuly (8.0) – Sensational! Breathed new life into Roma and his pace and determination caused Milan’s defence to buckle. Even started off the move he ultimately scored from.
72mins Aquilani (NA)
MILAN
Kalac 3.5 – Hard to be positive here. Looked nervous throughout, didn’t command his box, was dodgy with clearances and probably shouldn’t have let Vucinic beat him at his near post.
Oddo 6.0 – Awful before the break with unconvincing defending and disappointing crosses, but far more assured in the second half and gave a superb assist for the goal. Less to blame for the late mistakes than the rest of the back line.
Maldini 6.5 – Had an outstanding game, commanding at the back and ruthless going forward – only to then play a leading role in the late collapse.
Kaladze 4.5 – It’s clear the Georgian isn’t yet on top form – looked very fragile in the first half and his indecision proved costly at the end.
Favalli 5.5 – Looked fairly comfortable at the back and got forward well but things changed with the emergence of Giuly.
Gattuso 5.5 – Struggled to stamp his authority on this game.
Pirlo 6.5 – Wasteful with his own chances but delivered some terrific passes, not least in the build-up to the goal.
Ambrosini 5.0 – Clearly a loser in the battle of the midfield
Kaká 6.5 – Sloppy at times, brilliant at others. Got the goal and always carried a threat.
Seedorf 7.0 – Probably Milan’s best player even though he squandered a great chance to make it 2-0. Things fell apart only when he was subbed.
Pato 5.5 – Poor final balls didn’t help his cause but then he didn’t make use of what he was given either. Terrible dive.
Substitutes
72mins Emerson (NA); 85mins Gilardino (NA); 88mins Paloschi (NA)
REFEREE
Rizzoli 8.5 – Did extremely well in a big game. Got all the major decisions correct, spotted Pato’s dive and Totti’s handball and correctly ruled against Roma in the corner fiasco. Let the game flow without resorting to needless early bookings.
