Gigli: There Is No Conspiracy
Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has insisted that the Bianconeri hierarchy does not believe that there is a conspiracy against the club.
Gigli and general manager Jean-Claude Blanc wrote an open letter to the Italian Football Federation in the aftermath of the controversial weekend defeat at Reggina, in which they hinted that the refereeing mistakes that have plagued the club’s season were a follow-on from the Calciopoli punishment in 2006.
This letter has reinforced the majority of Juventus supporters’ view that there is a conspiracy against the club to make them suffer.
However Gigli has tried to make it clear that this is not the opinion held by the club hierarchy.
"We do not believe in a conspiracy. Let us clear up any misunderstandings,” he told Tuttosport.
“Conspiracy is a word that I do not like and of which there is no trace in our letter as well as in our words.
"I think there is a psychological conditioning and that some referees are not serene when they arbitrate Juventus. There are too many anomalies.”
Juventus have been heavily criticised by a number of clubs for their open letter, including Torino President Urbano Cairo who is unhappy about the timing with the Turin derby scheduled for tonight.
"I am not at all pleased that the issue with the referees came two days before the derby, but it could not be helped this time,” Gigli explained.
“And we tried to do it in a way that was the most transparent and fair, with the open letter.
"I know Cairo and hold the greatest esteem for him. He is great entrepreneur. I hope to meet him tonight and shake his hand.
“I re-read that letter a hundred times and I heard the statements that some people have made. I do not think it was malicious, or aggressive.”

The Animal’: Footballers Today Are A Bunch Of Fairies
Former Juventus and Torino hardman Pasquale Bruno has launched a stinging attack on modern football players today, describing them, including those at his old club Torino as a bunch of “fairies”.
Bruno was one of Serie A’s most feared defenders during the 1980s and early 90s due to his uncompromising style which saw him nicknamed ‘The Animal’.
Turin Derby
The ex-stopper has never been one to hold back an opinion and he was interviewed by La Stampa ahead of tonight’s Turin derby. Bruno was asked which derby games he played in that were the most memorable.
"Among those with Torino, probably the match when I attacked the referee Ceccarini which cost me an eight game ban,” Bruno boasted.
“Then it was probably the 2-0 win with the two goals scored by [Walter] Casagrande, a game that was played after the semi-final of the UEFA Cup at the Bernabeu.
“The ones with Juve, I particularly remember the semi-final of the Coppa Italia; 1-1 in the first leg, 2-2 in the return.”
Modern Footballers
Bruno was then asked whether the football was better today or during his era.
"There is no comparison. It was better then. Football was played by real men,” he sniped. Torino Finally the 45-year-old had some very strong words to say about the current Torino squad.
"Only Comotto [I would have], although in my Toro he would have been on the bench,” he stated.
“We had players like Policano, Cravero, Annoni. Those were real fighters. Today Il Toro has changed. There are too many fighetti (fairies) with tattoos and earrings.”
Ibra & Del Piero
Bruno hit the headlines last month when he launched a sensational attack against Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alessandro Del Piero, saying that the former needed to be taught a lesson.
“He put his hand in Daniele Dessena’s face, he grabbed Giorgio Chiellini by the neck. Zlatan makes a mockery of the defenders and they don’t teach him a lesson, it’s incredible. If I scared men like Marco Van Basten and Gianluca Vialli, imagine what I would do to him. I’d eat him alive,” Bruno snarled.
“As for Alessandro Del Piero, don’t go telling me that he is a superstar. If he is, then what were Lothar Matthäus and Careca? Are they extraterrestrials?”
