Moggi: I'd have signed star duo
Friday 29 February, 2008
Former Juventus director Luciano Moggi insists he would have signed Antonio Cassano and Cristiano Ronaldo by now if he were still at the club.
The controversial managing director was banned from football for five years for his role at the centre of the Calciopoli crisis but still makes his opinion known on any Juve issue.
The Old Lady’s summer spending has been heavily criticised, especially the investment in flops Tiago Mendes and Sergio Almiron, and Moggi also feels the Bianconeri could have spent their funds better.
“If I had the transfer budget that was available last summer, Juve would be Scudetto challengers already,” the disgraced 70-year-old claimed on T9.
“Antonio Cassano would be playing for us, as would Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo was already ours and even came to Turin for a medical, but then Marcelo Salas’ arrival delayed the transfer.”
Despite his criticism of the summer spending, Moggi has stressed his belief in under-fire sporting director Alessio Secco.
“He is a really competent lad and he will show that over time,” he insisted.
With Juve claiming that referees are discriminating against them due to the shadow of Calciopoli, Moggi revisited that painful time.
“I never look back, but if Gianni Agnelli had still been alive there would have been no Calciopoli,” he maintained.
“In today’s world you always have to keep your guard up and be ready to defend yourself.
“Look at how the referees treat Juve now. Referees have never been conditioned they condition themselves.”

Palla delight at Juve deal
Friday 29 February, 2008
Juventus forward Raffaele Palladino has spoken of his pride at renewing his contract with the Old Lady.
The Azzurri man’s future had looked uncertain after he complained about a lack of playing time in Turin this term.
Due to the level of competition at the club, Palla has been forced to embrace a new role out wide in order to command a place in the side, but the position seems to be growing on him and he is happy to stay put.
“I am pleased,” he confirmed. “After nearly six years at Juve it has made me proud to sign until 2011.
“It has never been a question of money, but a technical dispute. I spoke to Claudio Ranieri before and to the club and they both gave me important assurances.
“My priority was to sign and now I can give my all to repay the club’s faith in me.
“It doesn’t make much difference to me whether I play as a striker or on the wing – the important thing is to be playing. I am 23 and I have experimented in lots of roles and always adapted to where I am needed.
“I am hoping to play regularly and I know that Ranieri has a great belief in me and that is crucial. Lately I have found myself out on the left where I can cut in and shoot, but it is tough to score from wide.”
Palladino’s next objective is clear – win a place in Roberto Donadoni’s Euro 2008 squad.
“Getting picked for Austria and Switzerland is my goal,” he admitted. “I am playing for my place in the final part of the season and Donadoni’s decision will depend on my performances with Juve.”
Finally, the talented Neapolitan discussed this weekend’s derby clash against Fiorentina.
“It is almost a decisive game,” he said. “We are approaching it during a delicate period after a defeat and a draw, so we must win.
“They will be without Adrian Mutu, who is a great player, but we won’t have Giorgio Chiellini or Pavel Nedved.”
