Marquez Offered To Atletico
Reports in the Madrid press suggest that Barcelona are ready to offer the services of Mexican defender-cum-midfielder Rafael Marquez to Atletico Madrid.
Barca have been splashing the cash in recent weeks as they look to build a squad capable of mounting a serious challenge to Real Madrid next season, and it is inevitable that some players will be allowed to leave as part of the re-building process.
One such player looks to be Marquez, with 'AS' reporting that his agent Jorge Mendes has received permission from Barcelona to offer his services to Atletico for next season, although there is no mention of the fee involved.
Atletico coach Javier Aguirre is a friend of Marquez's and is fully aware of the qualities that the 29 year old will bring to his side, having urged the Atletico board to make a move for his fellow Mexican in the January transfer window.
Marquez is capable of playing as both a holding midfielder and a centre-back - two positions in which Atletico have had problems this season - and as he holds a European passport he will not use up an extra foreigner berth, making him an attractive proposal.
He would have to take a pay cut in order to join Atletico, but is thought to be interested in the prospect of linking up with Aguirre, in addition to the fact that his fiancee Jaydy Michel keeps her Spanish residence in Madrid
