Man Utd in contact with Bayern star Schweinsteiger
Bayern Munich winger Bastian Schweinsteiger is a target for Manchester United.
The People says United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to pounce for the Germany star if Real Madrid win the titanic tussle for Portuguese ace Cristiano Ronaldo - and a £12million offer is in the pipeline.
Schweinsteiger, 24, has the kind of experience and top-class pedigree that United will need if they lose Ronaldo to his "dream club," and contact has already been made at the highest level.
The powerful German is in the last year of his contract with Bayern and looks sure to quit despite the pleas of new coach Jurgen Klinsmann.
Schweinsteiger, who was also on Chelsea's radar under Avram Grant's management and is still interesting the Londoners, would be able to move relatively cheaply.
Sources in Schweinsteiger's camp say there has been contact with United, who will set the wheels in motion if Ronaldo waves goodbye to Old Trafford.

Juventus would love to take Lukas Podolski and Bastian Schweinsteiger this summer.
Both players are enjoying fine tournaments for Germany at Euro 2008, yet many pundits believe they are treating the competition as a shop window after failing to nail down regular places in the Bayern Munich side under Ottmar Hitzfeld last season.
And despite Jurgen Klinsmann, the former national coach who used both players in the World Cup Finals of two years ago, taking the reigns at the Allianz Arena next season, doubts remain over the futures of Podolski and Schweinsteiger.
Reports in Italy claim Juventus are willing to pay £20million for the striker and £15million for the midfielder, in what would be a huge boost to Claudio Ranieri’s bid for the Serie A title. However, the Italian has been told he has a fight to sign either player.
“There is a lot of talk and people seem to forget they have a contract with us,” said Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “We certainly have no intention of putting them on the transfer market.”
