"It's much better to be in first than not be" - Aimar
Argentine feels Benfica's position in table is fully merited
Benfica will look to expand their lead atop of the Liga Sagres table when they travel to the Bonfim to take on Vitoria de Setubal and for midfeidler Pablo Aimar, the Lisbon outfit are focused on staying perched at the summit.
The player who is also known as "El Mago" states that Benfica are in no way looking at the Sadinos as lightweights (having beaten them 8-1 at the Luz in the first half of the season) and understands that the hosts will look to win the match just as much as the Aguias will want to.
"I imagine that they wil be an adversary who will look to win the game and try to stop us with the help of their supporters, but I hope it doesn't happen," said Aimar on Benfica TV. "I believe they are stronger (since the last time we played them) and in football, what happens in the past doesn't count for anything."
"A team has to be strong in all of its matches. They (Setubal) are better and I also expect us to be better than that match. We can't relax in football. With the team that we will be playing on Saturday, I believe that it would be a mistake if we did that."
"We have 90 minutes to try and win the match and it will be different from the first time we played one another."
Added confidence
As for currently being sole leaders of the Portuguese championship, the Argentine went further by explaining that the achievement instills the team with more confidence and that it's a product of the squad's hard work.
"We are where we deserve to be," added Aimar. 'We have scored the most goals, but it's the points collected that determines the championship."
"Being in first plays in our favour as it is much better to be in first place than not to be. I don't know if it bothers our adversaries, but it gives us a lot of confidence."
