Germany
Enke- 6.0: Not unduly tested by Wales on what was a largely quiet night for the Hannover custodian.
Lahm- 7.5: Underlined why he is possibly the best left-back in Europe, if not the world. He was more like a left-winger at times and combined superbly with Bayern team-mate Lukas Podolski down the flank. Defensively sound as well.
Beck- 6.0: The Hoffenheim full-back was the weak link for Germany tonight. A few too many poor touches and he failed to match up to the sparkling display seen by Lahm on the opposite flank.
Mertesacker- 8.0: In a word: impassable. The Werder defender was a giant in more ways than one tonight and allowed absolutely nothing past him.
Tasci- 7.0: The Stuttgart man played well alongside Per Mertesacker and apart from a few loose balls, he kept up his concentration for the whole 90 minutes to shut Wales out.
Rolfes- 7.0: Quietly impressive. The Leverkusen holding player did a lot of unseen work which allowed the likes of Michael Ballack and Thomas Hitzlsperger to get forward.
Hitzlsperger- 7.0: Solid and dependable although he was only really given one chance to unleash his famous shot.
Ballack- 8.0: The captain was excellent tonight. He looked to be enjoying the game and stamped his quality on proceedings throughout. His goal was fantastic and he showed a number of brilliant touches throughout the match.
Schweinsteiger- 6.5: Didn’t combine that well with Beck, but that was more to do with the full-back than him. He had one good effort on goal, before limping off in the second-half.
Gomez- 5.5: I am a Mario Gomez fan, but once again he failed to impress in a German shirt and has now not scored in his last 14 internationals. With Patrick Helmes on the bench chomping at the bit, it remains to be seen how many more chances he will be given.
Podolski- 6.5: He didn’t score tonight but he played well throughout and combined well with Lahm down the left.
