Roberto Carlos: Florentino Wants Madrid PresidencyFormer Los Blancos leftback, Roberto Carlos has endorsed his former boss Florentino Pérez to run for a second stint as president of Real Madrid. As rumours continue to grow that ex-Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez is considering wrestling back control of the Bernabéu, one of his former superstar employees, Roberto Carlos has given him the push to run for a second stint.
“Florentino wants to return to be president of Real Madrid and if he wants to, he can,” the veteran Brazilian leftback told RNE (Radio Nacional de España).
“He lives and breathes football and he misses winning titles with Madrid. I think a lot of people will be pleased to see him return,” added Roberto Carlos.
The 35 year old then spoke about the now infamous photograph of Pérez posing with fellow ex-Galácticos, Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo. The picture has drawn heavy criticism from current merengues supremo, Ramón Calderón, who accused the construction tycoon of only showing his face when the club are in crisis.
“I don’t see anything wrong with him taking the photo. He did not do it to disrupt the club and I believe it was a genuine gesture. I would’ve taken a photo with him too,” he confessed.
Finally, the current Fenerbahçe wingback also had some words of advice for the current regime.
“I don’t have anything against (Predrag) Mijatovic. But if he wasn’t at the club, I would still be in Madrid right now.
“And Calderón is an intelligent man… he should not worry about Florentino’s photos or about other things.
“He should continue to follow (Barcelona president) Joan Laporta’s example of how to get things done properly,” he concluded.

Madrid Best-Placed To Sign Arshavin - AgentReal Madrid are best-placed to sign Andrei Arshavin in the winter transfer window from Zenit St Petersburg, but have yet to make an firm offer, according to the player's agent.Russian international Andrei Arshavin announced earlier this month that he could not play beyond the winter transfer window for his current side Zenit St Petersburg - and would force his way out if necessary.
Having made that statement, Arshavin's agent, Dennis Lachter, now faces the task of finding a club that is willing to meet Zenit's demands and that will suit his client's plans. Word is that it could be Real Madrid.
Madrid have not confirmed that they are even interested in the player, while Bayern were surprised by the forward's statement that he would jump at the chance to join them this week.
Lachter has now decided to move things along and has told reporters, according to AS, that Madrid should make a move because they would have a great chance of signig Arshavin in January.
"There are several things, but none of them are concrete, unfortunately," he explained.
"But the club that is best suited to sign Andrei at the moment is Real Madrid, although they have yet to start any serious negotiations."
Tottenham Hotspur were set to land the player in the summer, only for Zenit to keep raising their asking price, a move which also put Barcelona out of the running.
With Zenit now stating that the 27-year-old can go, interest has been growing and Arshavin could have his pick of clubs in two months' time, Lachter added.
"They continue to come in from Spain, Italy and England and all of them are leagues where he would like to play. That is nothing new to hear though," he said.

Ramos To Replace Maldini At Milan - ReportsMilan are ready to make a move for Real Madrid stopper Sergio Ramos as a replacement for the legendary Paolo Maldini, according to Il Corriere Dello Sport... The Italian will finally be hanging up his boots at the end of the season and reinforcements are needed at San Siro.
With the emphasis shifting to bringing in younger players, all eyes have focussed on the Santiago Bernabeu.
Il Corriere Dello Sport claims the Rossoneri are ready to make a mega-bid for the Spanish international.
Vice-president Adriano Galliani admitted that a defender is needed and he will flex his muscles to get one.
"There will certainly be some reinforcements at the back seeing that Maldini will retire. It will be hard if not impossible to replace him," said the chief.
22-year-old Ramos would be an ideal replacement. The defender is comfortable playing both on the left and right.
The player hasn't been offered a new and improved deal with the Primera Division club and this has led to speculation that he wants to leave.
With Milan likely to qualify for the Champions League this term, Ramos will be tempted by a possible offer.
Udinese's Christian Zapata and Liverpool man Daniel Agger have also been linked with Il Diavolo but Ramos remains their first choice.

Milito: Madrid Are Attractive To AnyoneGenoa striker Diego Milito has spoken today about rumoured interest from Real Madrid and says anyone would be attracted, but that he is happy where he is at the moment...With Ruud Van Nistelrooy injured and Real Madrid supposedly in crisis, it is of little surprise that transfer targets have been created in their drones as of late. One of the most attractive of those is Genoa striker Diego Milito, who moved from Spain to Italy this summer when Real Zaragoza were relegated.
The media has reported that he could be close to a move back to Spain, and in particular the capital, but today he denied any knowledge of such a move.
"I am very happy here, it is a club where I feel loved and respected," said the Argentine to AS.
"Obviously the rumours that a team such as Real Madrid have me in their sights is very nice, but I cannot comment anymore because I do not know if it is true or not. Today I enjoy the present, the furture we will see."
Whilst the striker may not be thinking about leaving Genoa at the moment he did confess though that the lure of Real Madrid is hard for anyone to resist.
"For any player in the world it is appealing to play in a team of that magnitude, but I cannot comment on anything further. If anything did happen and was signed then we could sit down and talk," he mused.
Milito left Spain last summer and he has found goals easy to come by in Serie A, already winning the hearts of the fans with some great performances. He confirmed today that Genoa was not the only place that he could have gone.
"There were offers, some concrete, above all from an English team, but at the time Genoa made a great proposal," he declared.
"To have gone [left Zaragoza] in the way I did made me sad because I would have been delighted to have left them in La Primera, but at times there are things that cannot be done."
Whilst one Milito might be in Italy the other, Gabriel, is still in Spain, and is leading the way in the league with Barcelona at present. Diego had nothing but praise for the league leaders when he spoke about them today.
"They are having an extraordinary campaign, with a great coach, who has found the solidity and ambition that is at Barcelona. Without doubt they are the favourites to win the league," he opined.

Mauro Zarate Lands On Madrid's RadarAs Los Merengues continue their search for a replacement for the crocked Ruud Van Nistelrooy, yet another target has been added to the ever-increasing list...The list of stellar names being lined up to travel to the Bernabeu in January is ever-increasing. The top targets already inlcude Hernan Crespo and Carlos Tevez, but now a new and intriguing name has been added.
Mauro Zarate has been in blistering form for Lazio and has been the main catalyst in their rise into the top four of Serie A. The former Birmingham player has grabbed seven goals in eleven matches so far, and his general play has led to comments from some quarters that he has the potential to be the 'Messi of the Italian league'.
The twenty-one-year old joined Lazio on loan from Qatar side Al-Saad, who had paid in excess of $20 million to purchase him from Velez Sarsfield just twelve months earlier.
The Argentinean is a prodigious talent who is finally beginning to realise his full potential in Rome, and the Biancocelesti have until 30 April 2009 to raise the funds to make the deal permanent.
However, reports surfacing from Marca.com suggest that Madrid are ready to intercept the move and bring the forward to Spain immediately.
It is no secret that Madrid will be active in the transfer market in January to combat rivals Barcelona's impressive start to the campaign, and Zarate is exactly the type of player to thrill the crowds and get the goals to turn Los Blancos' season around.
