Edwin van der Sar – Surprisingly so little to do. His kit probably won't even need washing!
Gary Neville – Loves a battle and never shirked a challenge. He was rock-solid at right-back for the Reds.
Nemanja Vidic – Absolutely outstanding. A colossal figure at the heart of United’s defence, he spearheaded the Reds’ rearguard with distinction.
Jonny Evans – He's adapted brilliantly - and very quickly - to life at the top level. Coped well with the physical threat of Drogba. Rio who?
Patrice Evra – Great going forward and fearsomely strong in the tackle. Brilliant cross for Rooney's goal.
Cristiano Ronaldo – Moments of magic in games of this magnitude tend to be fleeting, but Ronaldo was always threatening. His first half header should have stood and he set up Berbatov's goal with a fine cross.
Darren Fletcher – Commanding in what was a difficult job up against Ballack, Lampard and Mikel. Coped well. A mature performance.
Ryan Giggs – The term vintage does Giggs a service, but this performance really was the Welshman at his very best. Really bright right from the start. Surging runs from midfield made him stand out and received a well-deserved standing ovation.
Ji-sung Park – Typical Park, sprightly going forward and a danger to Cole and Bosingwa whenever he switched flanks.
Wayne Rooney – Effervescent and always involved. Rooney is a player that really makes United tick and he was
Dimitar Berbatov – In and out of the game, it’s sometimes difficult to evаluate his contribution, but his flick on for Vidic's goal was crucial and he got on the scoresheet himself.
Substitutes
John O’Shea (on for Evra 66) – Great tackle on Drogba when he first came on, and United didn’t miss Evra when he went off, testament to O’Shea’s seamless introduction.
Michael Carrick (on for Giggs 80) – His task was just to keep United ticking over, and he did it with usual assurance.
