Dos Santos Reveals Reason For Barcelona Exit; Hopes To ReturnOne of the Blaugrana’s previous young sensations has explained why he decided to leave the club during the summer despite a promising future.
Many had regarded Giovani Dos Santos as the next Ronaldinho at Barcelona when the pair were still playing at the Camp Nou last season.
But after a disastrous campaign, both players have since left Catalunya and while the Brazilian superstar has gone off to Italy with mixed success at Milan, the Mexican youngster has flopped spectacularly with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
In an interview with Ona FM, the 19-year-old Giovani spoke of his time as a Blaugrana and how he still supports the club.
“I left Barca because I was searching for more [playing] opportunities,” he began, “Sometimes in football, it’s not just about who you love playing for and important and difficult decisions have to be made.
“I am learning a lot in the Premier League and I will continue working to try and return to Barcelona.
“I still have very good friends there. They are doing great this season and I hope they will end up winning a lot of titles. Their last few results have not been great, but there’s no reason to ring the alarm bells,” he offered.
The Monterrey-born forward did, however, admit that there were some minor factors which also drove him out of the Camp Nou, namely the constant comparisons with another young prodigy, Bojan Krkic.
“Comparisons are never good and it was perhaps a little unfair on me. But that is already in the past and I still have a good relation with him,” he assured.
But when asked if Bojan himself should seek a transfer to gain more playing experience, Giovani replied: “It depends on him. He is doing well there, he’s surrounded by the best players in the world and this year, he will be winning titles with the side.”
Giovani’s debut season with Spurs has been plagued with injuries as he continues to feature sparingly in manager, Harry Redknapp’s plans. He did get on the scoresheet overnight in the UEFA Cup in the 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk but it wasn’t enough to save his side from elimination.
