Abbiati - 5
Has to go down as poor positioning for Cassano's goal. Otherwise fine.
Antonini - 4
Woeful. Offered nothing going forward and wasn't much help defensively. Obviously it's not easy to come into the team having played very few games, but he has to show more if he wants a starting place.
Senderos - 4
Clueless. Daft booking, rank positioning, some awful distribution. Suffered from his lack of understanding with Senderos.
Bonera - 4
Tried hard to hold the defence together but ultimately failed and got skinned embarassingly easily for Pazzini's goal.
Zambrotta - 5
Did nothing in the first half other than one very good cross. Was he the guy that was supposed to be with whichever Samp player had the initial header for their first goal? Looked like he was nearest but I'd need to check. Samp weren't attacking down his side in the first half and Milan weren't attacking down his side in the second half, so wasn't really involved, largely through no fault of his own.
Beckham - 4
A total passenger, who wasted possession on the precious few occasions he got on the ball. Suffered the humiliation of being replaced by Emerson and thoroughly deserved it. Should have been looking to get wide and stretch the game in the first half, and then failed to provide any service for Pippo in the second.
Flamini - 5.5
Largely anonymous. Lots of running and two half decent shots, and that was about it other than various stupid fouls (the one he got booked for was embarassing - two footed challenges show either technical ineptitude, petulance or outright reckless stupidity, make up your own mind which it was) and some poor use of the ball. Tried hard, achieved little.
Pirlo - 5
Dreadful in the first half aand was on thin ice following his booking. Ancelotti left him typically exposed in front of the defence, which, since he has no defensive ability whatsoever, just led to him being forced to commit foul after foul. Passing was poor in the first half as well. Looked a lot better when he got moved out to the left in the second half, allowing him to put a couple of decent balls in the box. Will be embarassed by the free kick debacle at the end.
Jankulovski - 4
Like Beckham, should have got some chalk on his boots in the first half and looked to make some runs in behind Padalino to give Pirlo & co. an option. I'm thoroughly sick of hearing how good he is as a midfielder.
Seedorf - 4
Made painful watching once again. Was usually outnumbered by Samp. (a result of Milan's wide players not doing enough to make the pitch big), but that doesn't excuse the number of times he gave possession away very cheaply. Worked hard to get on the ball, but over the piece contributed very little. It's sad to see him struggling.
Pato - 6.5
Took his goal well and worked hard. Other than that he did nothing, but couldn't reasonably be expected to given that, among other things, he's not a lone striker and he's not yet capable of carrying an underperforming team by himself when he's being double and triple marked throughout the game. At times tried to do too much by himself, but he didn't often have another option. Still runs with his head down a bit too often and had quite a few loose touches and miscues. Showed encouraging maturity by not reacting to continually getting the shit knocked out of him.
Inzaghi - 5
No service = ineffectual Pippo. But he was a presence in the box if nothing else and his movement at least gave Samp's centre-backs something to think about.
Favalli - 6
Provided more width and urgency than Jankulovski and put in a good cross for Pato's goal. It sounds strange to say it, but Favalli made a difference today.
Emerson - 5.5
Was never really going to change the game, but his presence in front of the defence allowed Pirlo to move forward and out to the left and he used the ball reasonably well. Solid display.
