Diego: I'll be Juve's new Zidane
Friday 15 May, 2009
Brazilian star Diego is confident that he can become Juventus' new Zinedine Zidane when he completes his move from Werder Bremen.
The 24-year-old is finally set to sign on the dotted line to become the Old Lady's first major signing for 2009-10.
“Let's just say that we are very close - just a tiny step away from a deal,” Diego said in La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I want to play for Juventus. I have always dreamed of playing in Italy because I think Serie A is the most beautiful and challenging League and now Juve have shown me that they really want me.
“There are and have always been so many great champions in Italy. Zidane was my role model and I used to watch him on TV. He was a Frenchman but he had Brazilian feet.
“Am I scared of the increased pressure in Serie A? No, I am used to it. I have been playing for the Brazilian national team since I turned 19 and it's the same drama when you lose a game there.”
Juventus are expected to pay between £15m and £20m for Diego's services.

Juve chief hails Ranieri's work
Thursday 14 May, 2009
Claudio Ranieri's chances of sitting on the Juventus bench next season have increased as Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has praised him for his work.
Ranieri wasn't able to deliver the silverware that the Old Lady's fans demanded this term and most experts expect him to be given his marching orders at the end of the campaign.
But the club have been keen to stress their satisfaction with the former Parma man's work and Cobolli Gigli has again lavished praise on his Coach.
“We saw a great game against Milan last weekend and the team had obviously been well managed by Ranieri,” he asserted.
“We have said that for now we just want to go forward to the end of the season and look for the nine points that could bring us second place.
“After that we will make our decisions. But in the long meeting that we had two days ago there was a substantial appreciation for the work that Ranieri has done this year.”
Genoa boss Gian Piero Gasperini and Bari tactcian Antonio Conte are the favourites to replace Ranieri.
