Our new Umbro-designed kit has fans going ‘mad for it’. The weekend launch was the most successful in the club’s history in terms of interest and sales and most of the supporters wanted Carlos Tevez on their back!
And it is not just in the merchandising store where our new Argentina international striker has scored – 55% of the new shirts sold will bear his name and number – because since his arrival last Tuesday daily seasoncard sales have increased by more than 300% and the club is on target for the highest sales of seasoncards in our history.
It was quite a weekend all around for us here at the stadium with in excess of 3,000 people braving the incessant rain to attend the free Live from City gig featuring Doves and Kid British on Friday night.
That impressive figure was surpassed the following afternoon for the beam back of the game against the Pirates in South Africa on Saturday afternoon, and 6,000 people visited the shop in a little more than eight hours as demand for replica kits reached unprecedented heights. Sales were up 250% on the previous most successful kit launch.
“With the exciting signing of Emmanuel Adebayor confirmed, it was an incredible weekend for the club and the sales of our stylish and innovative new kit underlined the unprecedented interest there is in City at the moment,” declared CEO Garry Cook.
“The response from our supporters both to the recent signings and the kit launch has been amazing even by their extraordinary standards. These are exciting times for us and for them.
“Saturday saw the opening of our brand new shop and customer services centre with increased product range and the indoor box office for non match days.
“They are complemented by the new official website that offers improved retail facility and are part of the mass of improvements that we have been implementing this summer and that will hopefully enhance the fans enjoyment of their club.”
Umbro marketing director Trevor Cairns, whose company designed the innovative tailored kit, was also deeply impressed by the stampede to own the shirts.
“From my Nike days working with some huge clubs, I can only think of one occasion when a shirt launch achieved such a rapid and enthusiastic response. What has been achieved is truly remarkable. City fans are a special bunch,” he stressed.
