Manchester United ace Nemanja Vidic pledges his future to the Old Trafford club
24/08/09 By David McDonnell
Nemanja Vidic has pledged his commitment to Manchester United and insisted he has no intention of quitting Old Trafford.
Vidic's agent, Paolo Fabbri, was quoted as saying the defender would relish a move to Barcelona amid claims the 27-year-old's wife, Ana, was unsettled in Manchester.
But after making his first start for United this season in Saturday's 5-0 thrashing of Wigan, Vidic said he remains committed to the Premier League champions.
"The first thing to say is that I have personally never said anything about Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan or any club," said Vidic.
"It's other people speaking about it. I never speak about my future so I don't really know why someone else does.
"I showed at Wigan on the pitch how I played and how happy I am at this club.
"Anyone who is a fan of United or the players would only have to see how I played to know how committed I am to the club.
"I have spoken with my agent. I know about all the rumours about me but I don't want it to have an impact on the club.
"It's not a good time for my club to be hearing those rumours. I'm here and I'm committed. I'll show that with how I play in matches.
"But I will never speak about my future and I will never talk about moving to other clubs.
"It's not my true that my wife isn't happy. I don't know how that rumour came out because she's never spoken about it. She's not what you'd call a famous wife."
Vidic, who missed United's opening two Premier League games with a calf strain, added some much-needed assurance and experience to their back four at Wigan.
And the Serbia international admitted the emphatic win over Wigan had restored United's bruised pride and shattered morale following their shock 1-0 defeat at Burnley.
"It was definitely what we needed after Burnley," said Vidic. "We did well after such a bad game. We realised how badly we had played at Burnley.
"But I'm proud of how we responded at Wigan. It's not just about the strikers. We played like a team against Wigan, the strikers had good service and showed good movement.
"We've lost a couple of players in Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, but we showed we still have the good forwards and good players who can score goals.
"We know what good players we have. We've lost one of the best players in the world in Ronaldo and you want him in your team. Of course you miss him.
"But at Wigan you saw what great players we have who can score goals. We always felt we have the quality."
