Manchester City Stand Firm Over Shaun Wright-Phillips' Improved Contract Offer - ReportThe club has been subject to harsh criticism from Wright-Phillips father, Ian Wright, who slammed the club for "mugging off" his son during contract talks.
The player himself maintains he is not greedy and only wants to remain with the Citizens for the rest of his career.
It is believed City have offered Wright-Phillips an improved £70,000 five-year deal which he declined, hoping to be brought more in line with players such as Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor who make over double what Wright-Phillips currently earns at £60,000.
Wright-Phillips impressed for England coming on as a substitute at Wembley to score a goal and provide an assist as the Three Lions defeated Egypt.
The 28-year-old City academy graduate has struggled under new manager Roberto Mancini and it is believed the club is unwilling to offer the player astronomical wages under a five-year deal.
Further, City have brought in Adam Johnson in the January transfer window who Mancini seems to prefer over Wright-Phillips.
