Wenger: Van Persie is in quite a good condition
Persie’s injury situation and hinted that despite the Arsenal striker working hard on his fitness it is unlikely he will play before mid-May.
The Dutch international injured ligament in his ankle against in a friendly against Italy in November and has been forced to watch from the sidelines as his Arsenal teammates valiantly fight for both the Premier League and Champions League titles in his absence.
One of the country’s most in-form strikers when he suffered the fitness setback, it is understood that the player still retains hope of playing in the Arsenal first team before the end of the season and thus ensuring his place on the Holland plane to the World Cup in South Africa.
Speaking to Arsenal TV Online, coach Wenger reflected on van Persie’s progress:
“There is still a little chance; we monitor his progress and he is doing very, very well. Physically he is quite sharp.
“The fitness coach Tony Colbert went to test his fitness and he is in quite a good condition.
“When he is ready to kick the ball again he will come back from his rehabilitation and it will still take three weeks. If you add him coming back plus three weeks we will still be in May.”
