A Clever Performance After Thursday night’s draw in Hamburg, Fulham Captain Danny Murphy praised his Team following an intelligent, professional display against Hamburg in Germany.
“I thought the overall performance was good,” explained Murphy. “It was a clever performance in many ways.
“We knew about their attacking threat and if we were disciplined we would limit them to chances. We’re good at that. We’ve shown in this competition that we can go away from home and shut up shop if you like.
“With a bit more quality later in the game on the counter attack we could have damaged them but it wasn’t meant to be and that would have been a bit harsh on them.
“Other than a few saves in the last 15 to 20 minutes Mark [Schwarzer] didn’t have much to do, so considering the quality of opposition and what’s at stake, I thought it was a really good performance.”
Murphy was happy for Hamburg to be tagged as favourites on Thursday night and is clearly looking forward to taking the tie back to the Cottage next week.
“The end of the adventure has been every time we’ve drawn a good team – starting with Shakhtar Donetsk. We don’t mind being the underdogs and tonight we showed maturity and rode the pressure well.
“I don’t think they’ll fancy coming to the Cottage. They won’t dominate the game like they did tonight and I think overall we have to be pleased with tonight’s performance.
“We’ve done it again and the journey continues but we’ll not be complacent because we’re at the Cottage. They’re a good side and it’s going to be a tough one.
“It’s hard to equate what it would mean [to reach the Final]. It's one step at a time and if we did manage to get to the Final it would be the Club’s greatest achievement.”

One Step Away Clint Dempsey was understandably satisfied with Thursday night's draw in Hamburg and is clearly determined to see Fulham through to the UEFA Europa League Final when the Whites return to the Cottage next week.
“We’re happy with the result tonight and the next leg’s back at home so we’re in a good position to get the job done next week," said Dempsey. "Personally, I felt good tonight. I felt sharp and I thought I made a difference tonight.
“It was great to see our fans here tonight, especially with what's been going on with the volcano and hopefully we can get the job done next week. They’ll be excited about the result because we are.
“The pitch was really nice this evening and they had good support and that’s what it’s all about. You want to play in stadiums like this and that’s why we’re excited we’re in this competition. Hopefully the atmosphere will be great at the Cottage next week.
“We have a good record at home and hopefully we can continue that. Were in with a good chance and if we can take advantage we can get all the way to the Final.
“We know what’s at stake and we know how we need to play. Our coaching staff do a great job of preparing us for all our games. We work hard and we really put in the work. I’m not surprised with how well we’re doing. We’re a Team that has confidence and hopefully we can get the job done.
“It would be great for Fulham and great for the players to reach the Final. We’re so close to the Final and we’ll be doing everything to make sure we’re there.”
