Mou blasts Barca and Balotelli Tuesday 20 April, 2010
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jose Mourinho hailed Inter as “a major Champions League club,” but blasted Barcelona and Mario Balotelli.
“Obviously beating Barcelona is not easy, neither is scoring or defending against them. We won and deserved it. Clearly it's a result beforehand we would've been happy with,” he said of the 3-1 semi-final win.
“However, we are far away from the Final. There's another game to go against a side of the top quality who are extraordinary on home turf.”
Balotelli came off the bench and in the 20 or so minutes on the field was repeatedly told off from the touchline and by teammates. After the final whistle he was caught on camera throwing his shirt on the ground in anger.
“I have been at Inter since July 2008,” said a disappointed Mourinho on RAI.
“If I try to remember all the times I've tried to educate a great talent, they are thousands and thousands. This is a Champions League semi-final, the second most important tie in club football, and something ugly happened.”
The Coach was furious with the Blaugrana, who he accused of trying to crowd around the official after the final whistle because of a Dani Alves penalty appeal.
“After the match I saw some things in the players' tunnel that show me what it is I must expect next week.
“I saw the Barcelona players trying to put pressure on the referee. My only comment was that their players have short memories, but 'my' Chelsea players last season were complaining after an historically bad refereeing performance by Ovrebo.
“Why can Barcelona not act like champions and accept they lost on the night to a team that played better?
“We played very, very well. I am truly sorry we conceded that goal, as we studied Barcelona so carefully and knew what we shouldn't do. The one time we did that, losing the ball in our final third, and were punished for it.
“The team did brilliantly to give their all and fight back. Whatever happens, we could even lose 10-0 in Spain, but Inter have won six consecutive Champions League games and if this squad doesn't win it this year, it will the next or the one after.
“Inter have gone from being a small Champions League club to one that can deservedly beat Barcelona and challenge to go all the way.
“The Inter players deserve all the praise in the world. Whatever happens, the fans will never forget the journey we have made and the effort everyone put in.
“We are a united squad and share a dream, the ideas to chase that dream, and we will go all the way. Now we can either go to the Final in Madrid or home with our heads held high, as it has been an extraordinary campaign for Inter.”
Before the game Mourinho had said the tie was perfectly in the balance with a 50-50 chance. After this result, what are the odds?
“It's still only 50 per cent.”

Ibra: 'Materazzi attacked Balo!' Tuesday 20 April, 2010
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zlatan Ibrahimovic reveals Marco Materazzi attacked Mario Balotelli in the players' tunnel. “I've never seen anything like it! I'd have decked him.”
The Barcelona star gave his version of events after the final whistle, when Balotelli had thrown off his Inter jersey in anger.
“I saw that Materazzi was attacking him in the players' tunnel and I've never seen anything like it,” Ibra told RAI.
“If I were him, I'd have left Mario alone, but Materazzi was attacking him and I was stunned. If Materazzi had attacked me like that, I would've decked him in a second!
“Materazzi was causing all sorts of trouble and in the Barcelona locker room we were amazed, all talking about it. A player should be proud after a win, not chase down a 20-year-old to berate him.”
It was his second return to San Siro since leaving in the summer and failed to impress.
“It was a difficult game and Inter played in an aggressive manner. The referee also made some mistakes, but I don't want to blame him, as we didn't play the way we usually do other than the final 20 minutes.
“I'd come back from a month on the sidelines and didn't feel match fit. There is another game to go and at the Nou Camp it will be very different. We are confident.”
The Swede had complained about Jose Mourinho's tactics when walking away, but admitted things have changed.
“Inter play well and are more compact, but they have a different mentality and now believe that they can win. I play for Barcelona and believe in my team, so obviously the second leg will be the decider.
“Compared to when I was at Inter, they now attack a lot more. They have some great talents and also confidence, as the win over Chelsea really boosted their European mentality.
“Anything can still happen, but I have a lot of faith in Barcelona. If Inter can score two or three at home, then we can score four or five.”
'Balotelli will be punished' Tuesday 20 April, 2010
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inter general manager Ernesto Paolillo has pledged to “punish” Mario Balotelli for his “terrible” disrespectful gesture.
The substitute bickered with Jose Mourinho, teammates and fans during tonight’s 3-1 Champions League semi-final win over Barcelona and eventually threw his shirt away at the final whistle.
“Balotelli’s gesture was terrible. Just terrible,” said Paolillo. “It is something we are going to have to discuss.
“Will he be punished? Absolutely, yes.”
The incident marred an otherwise triumphant night for the Nerazzurri, who have put themselves in a strong position to reach the Champions League Final.
“It was a great Inter performance, a great squad and – let me add – this was Mourinho’s victory.
“Leo Messi was marked out of the game by our players and never got the opportunity to move.
“However, Barcelona remain a very dangerous side and we cannot afford to be too relaxed. We must imagine the second leg is starting from 0-0.
“If that is our mentality, then we can do it.”
Balotelli attacked in car park Tuesday 20 April, 2010
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mario Balotelli was attacked by fans in the car park at San Siro, as security staff rushed to the rescue.
The Inter striker ruined the celebrations in the 3-1 Champions League win over Barcelona by arguing with Jose Mourinho, his teammates and the crowd.
After a bad mistake on the counter-attack, the San Siro supporters jeered and he turned to visibly insult them.
The problems continued and at the final whistle he threw his shirt to the ground.
It has been revealed that Marco Materazzi confronted Balotelli in the players’ tunnel in a violent clash.
However, Sky Italia showed footage of supporters with access to the car park beneath San Siro trying to attack the striker as he walked to his car.
Security staff were forced to intervene in order to lead him to safety.
“He’s a youngster, this thing happened and in all honesty I’d prefer to think about the victory,” said President Massimo Moratti.
“This is a wound that will heal and could be a life lesson that’ll prove useful for him.”
Moratti hails 'extraordinary' Inter Wednesday 21 April, 2010
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Massimo Moratti believes Inter reacted in an extraordinary fashion to come back from behind against Barcelona in their Champions League semi-final last night.
The Nerazzurri went a goal down, but overturned the deficit and won 3-1 thanks to goals from Wesley Sneijder, Maicon and Diego Milito.
Inter can now afford to lose 1-0 at the Nou Camp when they play the second leg of their Champions League semi-final.
“I am proud of my players who beat Barcelona with a lot of skill and dedication: they really wanted to bring this result home so when Barca opened the scoring it was a tremendous blow to their morale.
“But they didn't collapse, actually they picked themselves up in a hurry and dominated the encounter: it's a success that's well-deserved.
“I would like to say that I am proud to have such an able and professional Coach like Mourinho.
“In the build-up to the game it seemed as if Barcelona would break us in two, but exactly the opposite happened instead.
“We could have won with a greater margin, ensuring a place in the final.
“Instead there is a need to keep our feet on the ground, but I can't but underline once more how this team played with its heart and its head giving immense joy to all the Inter fans.”
Report: Inter will sell Balotelli Wednesday 21 April, 2010
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inter have decided to sell Mario Balotelli after his antics during and after last night's Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.
The 19-year-old came on with 15 minutes remaining and reacted badly to the fans whistling him after he mishit a shot.
When the final whistle was blown, he took off his shirt and threw it to the ground, prompting Marco Materazzi to give him a piece of his mind.
Balotelli was then set upon by a number of disgruntled Inter supporters as he made his way to his Audi in the car park.
Sport Mediaset understands that Balotelli and Inter President Massimo Moratti have agreed to a separation, something the latter wanted to avoid, but can no longer.
His most likely destination is the Premier League where Arsenal and Manchester City are reportedly interested.
