SIR ALEX FERGUSON has stuck the knife into Carlo Ancelotti's historic Double winners by insisting: Jose Mourinho's Chelsea team was stronger than yours.
Manchester United manager Fergie watched current Blues boss Ancelotti guide the Londoners to Premier League and FA Cup glory this season - wrecking his own bid for a record FOUR successive titles.
It was the first time Chelsea had won the Double and Ancelotti's boys also set a new Premier League record of 103 goals.
But Fergie is adamant Mourinho is the better boss.
Mourinho's Chelsea were champs in 2005 and 2006.
And Fergie declared: "Jose is an intelligent guy. Each time he speaks to the media, he galvanises his team. He has a tremendous effect on his players.
"The Chelsea of today have not rediscovered this unshakeable faith, even if they have won the title.
"With Mourinho, I understood after two Chelsea title wins that I had to adapt my preparation for my team to be competitive earlier in the season.
"I could not allow myself to let Chelsea get away. The Mourinho challenge was one of intelligence, of confidence in one's self. I had to pick up this challenge."
Fergie's comments in French newspaper L'Equipe come just days after the Special One took his own swipe at Ancelotti.
Mourinho - who led his Inter Milan team out in last night's Champions League final against Bayern Munich - belittled Ancelotti's achievements by saying Chelsea's 2010 title challengers were not a patch on those of his era.
"I'm happy Chelsea won the title," he said. But please don't compare this Man United with my Man United.
"Don't compare this Arsenal with my Arsenal. My Arsenal was a team that won the league without defeat in 2003-04.
"Don't compare this Liverpool with my Liverpool. And don't compare this Premiership with my Premiership."
But Fergie insists Mourinho has NOT been his toughest advisary. That title goes to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and his Gunners predecessor George Graham.
Fergie, 68, added: "Mourinho is not the hardest opponent I have had in my time at United. He only stayed three years in England.
"Wenger, over time, and Graham were tougher rivals. It was hot stuff between United and Arsenal until three or four years ago."
Graham won the title twice in 1989 and 1991, Wenger won the Double in 1998 and 2002 and the Premier League with his unbeaten Invincibles in 2004.
Ferguson and Wenger are the two longest-serving Premier League managers and the Old Trafford boss is intent on continuing his rivalry with the Frenchman.
"I have a complete check-up every six months," he added. "Everything is fine. I go to the gym every morning. No sugar in coffee. I avoid fried foods. I do take care."
