10) Zlatan Ibrahimovic replaces Mario Balotelli as the most hated person in the whole of Italy. 'Ibrahimovic' enters the Italian dictionary, with its meaning: "mercenary with no loyalty."
9) Sampdoria are minutes away from reaching the Europa League final as they lead Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in their semi final second leg at Marassi. Domenico Di Carlo then decides it wise to use his third substitute on star man Antonio Cassano. Leverkusen force extra time with the last kick of the game and then win through in extra time as Cassano’s replacement Nicola Pozzi fails to trap a bag of cement.
8) Juventus have more Italians in their starting XI this season than Inter have had in the 15 years since Massimo Moratti took over. There are separate drinking fountains and canteens at both Vinovo and Appiano Gentile for Italians and non-Italians. Amauri and Moratti qualify for the latter.
7) Roma’s canteen runs out of food after Adriano gobbles up a year’s worth of supplies. The Brazilian’s weight rockets so high that Ronaldo visits a doctor fearing that he is anorexic.
6) Claudio Ranieri's Roma finish second in Serie A. They also lose the finals of the Coppa Italia, the Champions League and the Roma City Cup, additions to their gaffer's silver medals in the Capital Tiddlywinks Championship, the 50-metre breaststroke and the John Inman Lookalike competition.
5) Alexandre Pato embarks on a magnificent run, scoring 18 goals in 10 league games and adding 8 goals in 3 Champions League games. Sky Sports’ Phil Thompson says he’s “too small to make it” as a top-class player, Jamie Redknapp admits he's "never heard of Pato", while Martin Keown states that “Pato is unproven because he’s never played in the Premier League”.
4) Rafa Benitez outdoes Diego Maradona by using 103 Inter players during the course of the campaign. The only ones to start every single game are Dirk Kuyt and Lucas Leiva, signed from Liverpool on deadline day for a combined €40 million.
3) Maurizio Zamparini sacks Delio Rossi in September, reappoints Walter Zenga, sacks Zenga in October, reappoints Rossi, sacks Rossi in November, reappoints Francesco Guidolin, sacks Guidolin in December, reappoints Zenga, sacks Zenga in January, reappoints Rossi, sacks Rossi in February, reappoints Guidolin, sacks Guidolin in March, reappoints Zenga, sacks Zenga in April, reappoints Rossi and says he will “stay for a long time”, sacks Rossi in May, reappoints Guidolin.
2) After years of boasting of his management credentials, Silvio Berlusconi reacts to a nightmare start for Milan by sacking Massimiliano Allegri and taking the job on himself. Going with a 2-2-6 formation for the most part, his side pick up one win in the remaining 28 games as the Rossoneri are relegated for the first time in nearly 30 years. When slammed by the critics, Berlusconi replies: "Milan are the most successful team in history, no one has won more than me at a single club.”
1) Italian teams are robbed in Europe for the umpteenth year on the trot. Roma are eliminated by Bayern Munich after Miroslav Klose scores a winner despite being 20 yards offside, and Mark Van Bommel stays on the pitch despite breaking five Giallorossi legs. Inter are defeated by Manchester United after the referee executes ‘Until We Score Law’ and adds on 72 minutes of injury time during which The Red Devils score the two goals they require to progress. Meanwhile, Milan are ousted after UEFA create a new rule that bans teams with an average age of over 40 from participating.
