MANCHESTER CITY are plotting a swoop for Sporting Lisbon defender Daniel Carrico.

The 22-year-old has made 12 appearances for the Portugal Under-21 side and has been tipped to replace Ricardo Carvalho in the full national team in the future.

Carrico is under contract with Sporting until 2013 but City boss Roberto Mancini is keen to bring him to Eastlands.

City technical director Mike Rigg said: "We are always looking at players and I can't deny Carrico is an interesting player."
