Roy's tribute to duoRoy Hodgson has paid glowing tributes to two of his Liverpool stars as they close in on club landmarks this weekend.Jamie Carragher is set to make his 450th Barclays Premier League appearance for the Reds against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday - with the defender expected to take the captaincy in the absence of the injured Steven Gerrard.
"He's a major, major figure at the club and has been for his entire career," Hodgson told reporters at Melwood.
"It is a fantastic achievement and I am very delighted for him. If anyone deserves the accolades it's him.
"He's been everything I expected him to be (since I came here). I'd seen him play over the years and I expected him to be a good defender, a great club man, a tremendous enthusiast, a very good trainer, a first-class professional and a person with an attitude you wish you could find in every player you work with.
"The most important thing about him is said by his record - all the games he's played and all the sacrifices and great efforts he's made for Liverpool Football Club. His record tells you everything you need to know about him."
Hodgson added: "He's been very useful. From the offset he's tried his best to make certain everyone rallies round the cause and I'm really pleased to have him."
Meanwhile, Pepe Reina will break another long-standing Anfield record if he keeps a clean sheet on Sunday.
The Spanish custodian has managed 99 shut outs in the league in just 196 games - and will reach the 100 mark faster than any other 'keeper in the Reds history should he keep another blank at White Hart Lane.
Ray Clemence holds the current record having reached 100 clean sheets in 217 outings - but Hodgson admits he would relish seeing Reina smash the landmark.
"It says something about Pepe and the team's defensive record, which over the years has been very good," said Hodgson.
"The team defended well under Rafael Benitez and has always been a difficult team to beat and not one that concedes many goals. I'm sure Pepe will be the first to pay credit to that - but he's also made lots of very, very important saves along the way.
"I'm sure he'd like to have that record and we'll do everything we can as a team to help him."
