FURIOUS Roberto Mancini will strip Carlos Tevez of the Manchester City captaincy and force him to train with the reserves. The Eastlands boss does not want the transfer-seeking striker with City in Turin this week where they are playing Juventus in their last Europa League group clash.
Mancini will hold face-to-face talks with Tevez on Friday to assess whether he can even pull on a City strip again. But the Italian manager is now set to hand the skipper's armband on to midfield tough guy Nigel De Jong or back to Kolo Toure. Mancini is determined the little Argentine star's bid to quit City will NOT derail his attempts to win the title this season.
And he has already targeted a replacement in the form
of Wolfsburg's Edin Dzeko. Bosnian striker Dzeko, 24, has a Ј33.5million buy-out clause in his contract with the German club -
which City are prepared to match.Mancini is in Italy having some treatment on an eye problem and will join up with the rest of the squad tomorrow in Turin.
Tevez, 26, will be back in training today, but the first team from Saturday's win at West Ham are not due back until tomorrow.
And Mancini has left orders for him
not to join up with the rest of the squad tomorrow when they fly out to Italy. He wants the player in at the club's Carrington training base with the other players who have been left behind. While City are determined not to bow to Tevez's wish and sell him in January, Mancini does not want anyone in his squad who is not totally committed to the cause.
He wants the situation sorted out quickly rather than have the problem facing him every day.
That means Mancini will end up having to tell the board to get rid of him for the sake of the team.
City's chiefs are still convinced Tevez's transfer request is about money. They have saved emails between the club chief executive Garry Cook and Tevez's advisor, Kia Joorabchian, to prove they were pushing for a new deal.
They believe that failure to be offered a new contract is what led to Tevez's statement on Sunday night when he blamed a breakdown in relationships with senior officials at the club rather than the manager.
While 10-goal Tevez's transfer request is bad news for City, it is good news for their title rivals.
Chelsea's Florent Malouda believes City will not be able to win the title without him.The French winger said: "Tevez is like Didier Drogba for us. "You need these players who can make the difference and help you to win. You definitely need players like that in order to win titles. Every time he plays against us he is fantastic."
