MARIO BALOTELLI wants to leave Manchester City after just five months at the club.
The 20-year-old Italian striker is homesick after failing to settle in Manchester.
He has cut a miserable figure since making a Ј24million switch from Inter Milan and has revealed to those closest to him he wants to return home to Italy.
Balotelli has no issues with manager Roberto Mancini who has done everything to help the player settle into his new surroundings.
But the striker has found it difficult to make friends or find anyone to socialise with. He has failed to strike up any sort of a relationship with his team-mates on or off the pitch.
Mancini's own patience with the player has been stretched recently after he turned in an awful performance in City's 2-1 home defeat against Everton.
As SunSport predicted, he was axed for the 3-1 away victory at Newcastle on Boxing Day and will be on the bench again today for the visit of Aston Villa.
Mancini said: "If Mario deserves to play he will play, if he doesn't deserve to play he doesn't play. If Mario doesn't work, he doesn't play. Mario is a special player but you have to put strength and heart into your performances as well.
"I do not know why he does not look happy. He is in a fantastic team playing in probably the best league in the world. Manchester is not like Milan but he has to accept it."
Balotelli - who has scored five goals in 10 City appearances - accepts it will be difficult to leave in January but will look to get away in the summer. He was injured at the start of the season and returned to Milan during his recuperation.
The striker was then sent off at West Brom having scored twice.
Mancini believes Balotelli will one day be regarded as among the best in the world - yet he has struggled so far to adapt to the English game.
His frustration has brought five yellow cards including one at Newcastle on Sunday when he came on with just five minutes to go.
Balotelli has spoken of his desire to return to Milan one day and play for AC rather than Inter. He is good friends with former Inter team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovich who has fired AC Milan to the top of Serie A this season.
City's hopes of landing Edzin Dzeko next month received a massive boost after Wolfsburg's decision to let him go for around Ј25m.
Steve McClaren's relegation-threatened side are ready to cash in on the Bosnian and City will face stiff competition from Italian giants Juventus.
Dzeko has a Ј35m get-out clause in his contract and has stated his desire to join City or an Italian club.
McClaren is desperate to keep hold of Dzeko, 24, and has made him captain.
But general manager Dieter Hoeness has threatened a winter clearout in order to get the 2009 Bundesliga champions, who have struggled under McClaren, back on track.
City chief Mancini believes Dzeko is the missing link in his squad in order to turn his team into winners.
