Late on Thursday, Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger had ruled out the possibility of featuring Cesc Fabregas on the pitch this weekend. The manager described the skipper’s problem as being “a very small injury” but he explained that it would require an indefinite period of time to recover.

However, Cesc Fabregas’ personal trainer has come out to explain otherwise. The Daily Mirror quoted him as saying:

“If the scanner confirms what we hope, Cesc can play in the Nou Camp on March 8 without problems, no doubt.

“We are optimistic after tests this morning. Cesc asked for the change (in the Stoke match) as a precaution.

“He noticed a strange feeling but it stopped. Cesc could play this weekend.”

Fabregas is desperate to play in the Carling Cup final against Birmingham City on Sunday. After Wednesday’s unfortunate incident against Stoke City, the Gunners captain wrote on Twitter that he has “waited too long to captain a final for Arsenal” and thus vowed not to “give up till the last second”.

As we already knew, Theo Walcott will also miss the Carling Cup Final after being stretchered off in the same game. Again, the problem may be relatively short term.

“I saw him this morning,” said Wenger. “He has a classic ankle sprain. We don’t think there is any more damage to it. But it is still a sprain. We are sad for him too. He is out for Sunday and maybe one or two more weeks.”

"Cesc: Let me play" is their back page story as they claim the Arsenal captain will today "beg Arsene Wenger to change his mind and give him a chance" to play in the final.
The paper quotes an "Arsenal insider" as saying: "Cesc wants to play so badly. He had a scan which showed only a strain, not a tear. He is having another one on Friday and will have more treatment.
"He is the captain and wants to lead his team out so badly. He respects the manager's views but is desperate to be involved."
