JEROME Thomas has labelled Carlos Vela as Albion's 'ice man' following the Arsenal loan star's successive last-gasp levellers against Wolves and Stoke.
The Mexican super-sub celebrated his 22nd birthday yesterday on the back of two crucial point-earning strikes in 1-1 draws with Wanderers and the Potters after coming off the bench.
And Thomas, who also played as a youngster with the Gunners, insists those crucial goalscoring chances could not have fallen at the feet of a better man.
He said: "We don't know how important Monday's goal is going to be but it's got us out of the relegation zone and come May 22 that's where we want to be, so it could be vital.

"There is no doubt he has quality.
"You can see he is comfortable on the ball and is very technical - as most of the Arsenal players are - and he is great to play with.
"He doesn't really dribble that much with the ball.
"He likes to give one-twos and pass and move.
"That's the Arsenal culture - and it's great to play with him.
"Things don't faze him.
"You can tell how cool, calm and collected he is.
"It was just unlucky he couldn't get a second one against Stoke.
"But that would have been too much to ask after only coming on for ten minutes!
"He has great potential."
