Kieran Trippier intends to return to Manchester City this summer and force his way into Roberto Mancini's plans.
The 20-year-old full-back was sent out on loan to Barnsley this season after finding himself well down the pecking order at Eastlands.
He has, however, enhanced his reputation considerably during his time with the Tykes, while some of City's big-money acquisitions have flattered to deceive.
Trippier has seen his progress recognised with a call-up to the England U21 squad and he has scooped City's Young Player of the Year award.
He hopes he will now be given an opportunity to stake a claim for a first-team place with the Blues and earn an extension to a contract which is set to expire at the end of next season.
Scouts
"It's good for the club that all these big signings are coming in, but it's not going to stop me from trying to get in the first team," said Trippier.
"The City scouts have been watching me here and I think I've proved my point.
"I think my game has improved a hell of a lot at Barnsley and I've enjoyed every minute. If it wasn't for this loan spell, I don't think I'd be in the U21 squad.
"I will go back to City for pre-season and hopefully show the manager how good I am."

Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has won his race to be fit for the FA Cup final.
The Blues skipper will, barring any late setbacks, be named on the bench for Tuesday night’s fourth-place showdown with Spurs at Eastlands.
And that will clear the 21-goal top scorer to be involved in Saturday’s Wembley meeting with Stoke.
The Blues will also have hamstring victim Micah Richards and Gareth Barry back in action, while Pablo Zabaleta is expected to be fit after suffering a late ankle knock in the 2-1 defeat at Everton on Saturday.
Adam Johnson and Mario Balotelli are expected to be recalled after being rested at Goodison Park.
“Carlos can probably be on the bench,” said Mancini, whose team’s defeat at Everton was not punished by closest challengers Spurs, who slipped up with a 1-1 draw at home to Blackpool.
“
Zaba
doesn’t have a big problem, Gareth should play against Tottenham and we will recover Micah,” said Mancini.
The Blues realistically need to draw Tuesday night's game to virtually end Spurs’ chances of grabbing the final Champions League place.
