Didier Drogba, hero of Chelsea's victory in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich, has announced to his team-mates that he is leaving.
On his return from Munich after winning the Champions League against Bayern, the striker from the Ivory Coast revealed to his team-mates that the final was the last game in which he would wear the Chelsea shirt. "We won't be together next season", Drogba told his fellow European Champions in London, according to the French magazine 'France Football'.
Drogba burst into tears while delivering the news and found it difficult to continue. "As I had decided to leave, I wanted to tell them face to face but I could not carry on speaking. I was too emotional", he explained in the same publication.
The Ivory Coast international player is sorry to leave Chelsea - it not being what he had wished for - despite doing so as the great hero of the Champions League: "I've been saying I wanted to leave for three years but, now the time has come, it's painful because of all the good times I've had. I didn't want it to be this way but I've been on the bench for a long time, watching the rest of my team-mates play and the best thing is to make the leap, even if it's into the unknown".
