Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney would have been sold by Sir Alex Ferguson by now, says Dwight Yorke
Asked what would have happened under Ferguson, Yorke said: “I think the matter would have been resolved by now one way or the other. I feel he would have probably let him go by now. I know how brilliant he is but I think with all that Fergie came out and said – he said Wayne Rooney asked for a transfer, not playing him at key games at the right time – I think all of that would have built up.
“I know the kid. I know Wazza a little bit. He shares some stuff with myself. He just wants to play. Every player wants to feel loved and wanted. If he is not going to get it at United, he will seek it somewhere else.
"Until that is reinstalled back into his belief you won’t see the best of him.
“That’s up to the manager, that’s the manager’s job. That’s why he is there, that’s why he is getting paid the big bucks. I feel that once Rooney is in the position to do that, this year will be his best year.”
Chelsea have had two bids rejected for Rooney, who has told Moyes he wants to leave, but Yorke does believe that he could be persuaded to stay. “Why not?”
